"I shall always remember how you helped me Emrys."
"Goodbye Arthur."
As a tear rolled down her cheek, the young boy turned to a girl the same age. He smiled and his sweet words filled her mind.
" Don't cry. We will meet again one day. I know it this."
He wiped the tear from her cheek.
His eyes caught another tear as they dripped from her chin and splashed against her collarbone. She looked as brightly as she could, and the boy took a few moments to memorize her face before running away.
Seven years later
Mercedes urged her older brother, "Merlin, let me catch up!"
"I let you sleep in a little later. Sorry, you had to eat so quickly, but we have to go to work."
Upon entering the castle, Merlin continued to chuckle as she caught her breath.
"Thank you, but you're running!" She said in response.
"Perhaps Gaius can come up with a new remedy, so you are awake early on your own."
Mercedes quickly elbowed her brother, who shook his head faintly
"There's no doubt you are lucky to come with me to Camelot. I thought you were too young, but Gaius saw that you also needed guidance, and it has been eight years since we arrived and you continue to amaze me every day."
Her bright smile led Merlin to raise his eyebrows and smack her on the head.
"At how stupid you can be", he said.
Her shocked expression made him laugh. He turned to run down the hall, stopping in his tracks. Gwen, the queen of Camelot, grabbed the wall frantically and Mercedes held her giggle.
"Gwen! I'm so sorry.."
She shrugged it off with a smile.
"Good morning Merlin."
While her eyes roved down the hall, her smile brightened.
"Good morning, Mercedes."
"Your Maj..."
To protest, Gwen raised her hand in the air. Her grin raised her brow. A chuckle escaped Mercedes' lips.
"Good morning Gwen."
I told you not to call me majesty or highness. We are friends. Why do you not come with me? I'm sure Arthur awaits you."
Merlin headed straight towards Arthur's chambers.
"Ah, I suspect you've become more of an idiot, Merlin. You've forgotten how to navigate Camelot."
"No sire, Mercedes was running slowly this morning."
The back of Arthur's hand collided with Merlin's arm. In shock, he jumped.
"Leave your poor sweet and innocent sister alone. Do not blame her."
Merlin noticed a bag of essentials being packed. Raising his eyebrows, he looked up.
"Are you going somewhere?"
"No. We are going somewhere. As you are well aware, Sir Gwaine and several of my knights set out on patrol a few days ago. They still have not returned. We must find them."
Arthur led Merlin to Gwen and Mercedes in the garden.
"Our journey begins now. Wish us luck?"
