Mordred started his morning city patrol. Three weeks had passed since he spoke with Morgana. He wasn't surprised when he found Sophia with Mercedes outside her home. Mercedes was playing with Sophia's braid that was draped over her shoulder. Mordred sighed and decided to walk on not bothering them.

"Mordred!"

He stopped. He turned and was greeted by a bright smile from Mercedes.

"Good morning!"

Mordred chuckled as he approached them.

"Good morning Mercedes. Sophia."

Mercedes raised her eyebrow.

"Find anything suspicious? Do I need to be scared?"

Mercedes gently bumped him in the stomach with a laugh. Mordred shook his head.

"No need to fear. Sir Mordred is on the patrol! I actually just finished."

Sophia could feel the tension between the two. She shook her thoughts and laughed.

"Well, you don't want to be late."

Mercedes sighed.

"She's right. I do need to get going."

Sophia grabbed Mercedes' hand and twirled her in a circle. Mercedes laughed.

"Sophia, come on."

"You smiled though. It's so beautiful."

Mercedes giggled as Sophia pulled her in for a kiss. Mordred looked away and was shocked.

"Did Mercedes just... giggle?"

" I hope you have a beautiful day my sunshine."

Mercedes blushed. She leaned in closer to Sophia.

"I'll see you later."

Mercedes kissed her cheek. Mordred looked away awkwardly. Mercedes cleared her throat. Mordred turned to see her eyebrows raised.

"Since you have finished your morning patrol... Will you give me a royal escort to the castle?"

Mercedes smiled brightly. Sophia felt slightly uneasy. Mordred flashed a charming smile at Mercedes. He held out his elbow.

"Well, of course. You are after all the royal best friend."

Mercedes wrapped her arm around his. She turned to Sophia with a lovely smile.

"If I can get away for lunch I will head your way. I promise."

Sophia laughed and shook his head.

"Don't be late. Go on."

Mercedes let out a heavy sigh of relief.

"I could get used to this."

Mordred chuckled and nudged her side with his elbow.

"Do not get used to this. I am not your knight. I am the King's. He may not always have me out here ready for you."

Mercedes leaned her head against his arm.

"Still, whenever you do get to come this way. I do so love your company."

Mordred gently rubbed her arm around his with his other hand. He smiled.

"Sir Mordred. Mercedes."

They stopped as Leon stood in front of them.

"Good thing I found you two. Arthur requests your presence as well this morning. Both of you."

Mordred nodded.
