Gaius gave Merlin a look of pity. He placed his hand on his shoulder.
"Go with Arthur on this mission. Keep your mind on the mission. It will get Mordred out of the city for a while. Your sister will have a break. She'll be alright Merlin. You know your sister is strong."
Merlin swiped away the tears that started forming. He sighed heavily.
"She just got her heart smashed and I have to leave her."
"Your duty is to help our king. Your sister understands that."
Mordred tilted his head and rolled his eyes. He laughed at Kara's worried expression.
"Kara, don't do that. Mercedes has the job of worrying covered."
'I'm your girlfriend. I can't be scared you won't return?"
Mordred sighed and gently cupped her cheek.
"That's not what I'm saying... You two are so important to me... I can't have both of you wondering Camelot fearing my safety."
Kara nodded. She inhaled sharply.
"Mercedes is very protective of you."
Mordred smiled brightly. Kara felt a different warmth from this smile.
"I would not change Mercedes for the world. She usually comes with us. This is one of the only times she was asked to stay here."
Kara's true emotion was buried deep behind her fake smile. She hated the fact that Mercedes had been allowed on missions. Mercedes was rushing towards the courtyard trying to catch her brother and the knights before they left. Merlin groaned as he met with a tight hug out of nowhere. He laughed.
"I will return in a few days. You know I will be fine."
Mercedes smiled as she hugged him tighter.
"I miss you already... Please be careful."
Arthur laughed loudly.
"Mercedes, as much of an idiot that your brother is... we all know that he somehow manages to survive anything. He's like a cockroach if you will. If you imagine it... he even looks like one."
Merlin rolled his eyes as Mercedes fell into laughter.
"Okay... You can leave now."
Merlin laughed as he mounted the horse next to him. Mercedes turned to look for Mordred and froze. He was standing next to Kalypso with Kara. Mordred smiled before he leaned in to kiss Kara gently on her lips. Mercedes shook her head feeling completely broken.
"Mordred will be okay... He doesn't need to see me right now... He has Kara..."
She turned to walk toward the castle when the sweet sound of her name flew through the air.
"Mercedes!"
She quickly turned around to find Mordred with his eyebrow raised. He didn't notice Kara's glare. Mordred pretended to be offended.
"Did you really think you weren't going to say goodbye to me before I left? I am so hurt."
Mercedes laughed as she walked towards them.
"I'm sorry. I was in my world."
Kara was shocked when Kalypso nudged Mercedes's arm. Mercedes laughed.
"Hi, Kalypso."
Mercedes rubbed her nose and gave her a gentle kiss.
"You're going to have a great trip. I'll be right here when you get back beautiful girl. I have all the treats after all."
