Gwen smiled as she stood upon the balcony of the royal chambers. She could hear the citizens cheering, which meant the king and his knights had returned. Mordred carefully tied Kalypso in the stables and stood next to her with his arms extended with a smile.
"I think it might be easiest if you just lower yourself down to me and I carry you."
Mercedes slowly nodded her head and did her best to move into the correct position. August narrowed his eyes.
"Are you really going to carry her the entire way to your chambers from the stables?"
Mordred nodded with a chuckle.
"Of course. I can carry her no problem. You saw her this morning when she tried to walk. The pain is too much. She should not be walking on it."
Mordred started gently pulling Mercedes off of Kalypso. She shut her eyes tightly and groaned in pain. He finally had her in his arms bridal style. Mercedes looked at him with eyes that showed pain. Mordred sighed sadly.
"I'm sorry... I got you now. How about getting you to bed so you can lie down?"
Mercedes wrapped her arms around his neck and laid her head against his shoulder. Mordred kissed her forehead. Kalypso neighed as she turned her head. Mercedes smiled.
"I'll see you as soon as I can walk on my own again. I promise. I'll come straight to you, sweet girl."
Everyone at court was walking about the courtyard waiting to Welcome their king home. A noblewoman with black hair stood next to her best friend who had alburn hair. They were watching the knights walk through the courtyard. The woman with the black hair groaned heavily.
"Alice I don't see him."
Alice shrugged her shoulders and looked around confused.
"Isabella, you won't even tell me who you're looking for. So how am I to help you?"
Isabella gasped with excitement.
"I see him!"
Alice followed Isabella's eyes and was shocked. Isabella narrowed her eyes heavily.
"Why is he carrying a servant girl? She looks injured. Maybe he's just being a knight. It's what they do, but why waste his time?"
Alice looked at Isabella really confused.
"Sir Mordred? That's who you like?"
Isabella nodded.
"He seems mysterious. No one knows where he came from."
They watched Mordred and Mercedes talking and laughing. Isabella turned to Alice boggled.
"Why is he wasting his time with a servant?"
Isabella noticed Alice was confused by Isabella's observation.
"Why are you looking at me confused?"
Alice let out a heavy sigh.
"He's taking her home. You can see her leg is injured."
"Is the castle?! Does a servant live in the castle? Really?"
Alice was completely shocked that Isabella had no idea who Mercedes was. She stepped closer is Isabella.
"Uh... Bella... She lives with him..."
Isabella fell into laughter. They watched as Mordred walked through the castle doors that were held open for him. Isabella noticed Alice wasn't laughing.
"Why are you laughing?"
Alice shook her head.
"You must not have bothered to learn very much about Sir Mordred. Isabella, that's Mercedes. She's his girlfriend."
