Mercedes and Sophia ate in the middle of the garden. Sophia stared at her food. Smirking, Mercedes threw a grape at her. The grape struck her nose. Sophia gasped in surprise. Mercedes couldn't hold her laughter. Sophia smiled. Mercedes sighed.
"Is there something on your mind? You've seemed distant the past two days."
Despite being aware of the reasons behind her distress, Sophia couldn't seem to get over it. She sighed.
"I need to be honest with you."
Mercedes set closer to Sophia and gently grabbed her hand.
"What's wrong?"
A small tear crept down Sophia's cheek. She shook her head.
"I was... a bit jealous of Mordred... and after you use that protection charm on him... I hoped that the protection charm would wear off and that he would either get hurt... or... die..."
Mercedes leaned back slightly shocked. Sophia lowered her head.
"I instantly took it back... I thought he would be fine... but then he got hurt and I saw how upset you were and I just prayed that he wouldn't die..."
Sophia wiped her tears. She finally looked up at Mercedes.
"I'm so sorry..."
Mercedes looked away and wiped a tear before it fell from her eye. Sophia gently grabbed her hand.
"I didn't mean it. I promise."
Mercedes let out a heavy breath. She squeezed Sophia's hand. She gave her a small smile.
"I know I've thought somethings I didn't mean before in my life too... It's okay... he wasn't hurt because of what you thought."
Mercedes lifted her gaze as two more feet appeared next to him.
"Mordred, Hi!"
Mordred was carrying food. He smiled brightly at Mercedes.
"I was just passing through and saw you two. I thought I would just come to say hello."
Sophia quickly spoke without thinking.
"You should sit and eat while you have time. I know Arthur will need you back as soon as possible."
Mordred stood shocked. Mercedes laughed.
"You might want to listen to her. You'll be needed again soon."
Mordred chuckled as he set in front of them. Mercedes' eyes widened. She was looking at his lunch.
"Do you really need to eat two peaches?"
Mordred rolled his eyes and laughed. He picked one up and held it toward her.
"Oh, fine. Go on. You have it."
Mercedes smiled brightly as she took it from his hand and bit a chunk out of it.
"Thank you."
Sophia watched as Mercedes spoke. Mordred never broke his eye contact with her. He was paying complete attention to Mercedes during the entire conversation.
"What do you think Sophia? Sophia?"
Sophia was shaken from her thoughts. She turned to Mercedes confused.
"Huh? Sorry, what were we talking about?"
Mercedes cupped Sophia's cheek. She rubbed it with her thumb and smiled.
"You're so cute. It's okay."
"Mordred. Mercedes. Arthur requests your presence."
Mercedes looked at Mordred confused but smiled and nodded at August.
