Sin appeared in front of me, “I got the Beings, you go make sure they aren’t about to nuke us or something.”

I nodded and sprinted toward the portal before any humans could step through. I stopped in front of it, panting. Jacob stepped through first, hands and ankles shackled and he had a metal collar around his neck. He gulped upon seeing me.

“The humans,” he said lowly. “They wish to declare war on you.”

“If the humans would like to declare war on me, I would like to know their reasoning. We have done them no wrong,” I shook my head. “I refuse to go to war with anyone. We’d wipe them out, Jacob. You know we would.”

“I know,” he nodded. “There is a virus. One that broke out in Rome, and they say your kind caused it. Wiped out Europe, except for a few lucky survivors that live in mountains and a few that are somehow immune.”

I gulped, thinking back to the news report that came on after the humans declared our existence. The one that we caused. “Are you going back, Jacob?”

“Have to,” he sighed, and I noticed that his bindings were connected to chains.

I nodded, “Tell the humans they don’t want a war with us, and if they want to continue this argument, then they should schedule a meeting with us on Earth rather than invade our homes.”

“Treble, I didn’t tell them about the portals,” he said quietly. “I didn’t say a thing, but they tortured a witch, and she couldn’t help it.”

I sighed. “Why did they send you?”

“I’m a traitor,” he looked at his feet. “I’m ridiculed, and I’m gonna be beheaded in a week.”

I raised my eyebrows, “Uh, no,” I laughed. “No, I’ll break you out.”

“What if they see that as a sign of war?”

“Then they can suck it,” I shook my head. “You aren’t a traitor. You’re a human being. Being a traitor would be getting wing implants or some ridiculous thing like that. They don’t have the right to kill you when you were sent to get information for them anyway.”

Jacob gulped and nodded. “They cut wings…into my back,” he blushed heavily. “And sliced up my sides and call them gills. And they say stupid shit in Latin since they know that’s the language of spells.”

I pulled him into my arms, “I’m so sorry, Jacob,” I kissed his cheek. “You’ll be safe soon, okay? I’ll make sure you’re okay.”

He nodded, standing stiffly. He finally warmed up, and rested his hands on my hips. “Is Zack still gone?” I nodded. “I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be,” I shrugged. “I’ll go back with you if you want. Make sure they don’t hurt you. And I could just go ahead and take you back to Heaven with me.”

“But Treble, they know how to get into Heaven,” he said quietly.

“We’ll go to a different world,” I shrugged, getting up my hopes that we’d flash into the world Zack disappeared to.

“I want you to go with me,” he confessed softly, and I nodded. Sin appeared next to us.

“Are you Jacob?”

“Yes, sir,” the human nodded, and I pulled out of his arms. “The humans want to declare war on you.” Sin laughed loudly. “I know; they’re idiots.”

“Yes, they are,” Sin chuckled.

I turned to Sin, “They’re going to execute Jacob for being a ‘traitor’ and I’m going to see to it that he makes it back here with us. And I’m gonna request that we transfer ourselves so we don’t have another massacre of Heaven. They’re torturing Beings they’ve captured to figure out how to open portals, so we gotta put our feet down or something. Kill a few of them to shut them up.”
