I dragged Sin to his feet and he cried into my shoulder, hugging the life out of me. Zack did a better job at comforting him than I did. Sin still sobbed, though.
“I could’ve saved them!” he choked. “I heard them praying, and I thought it was nothing, and I let it go! And they’re dead because of me!”
I sat him down in the middle of the road, rubbing my thumbs over his cheeks, “They’re dead because Moore. Not because of you, Sin. This isn’t your fault. And you can’t save everyone out there. We should get the surrounding towns back before they can go after them too.”
“I bet they already did,” he sniffled as he grew numb. “I’ve got half a mind to kill him right now.”
“No,” I said firmly. “He’s expecting that, and they’re going to be well-guarded because of it. Just let it go for now. We’ll get him sooner or later.”
He nodded, features emotionless. I pulled him back to his feet and we grabbed the crates again before finding an official-looking car to cram them in. Zack hotwired the vehicle, and we were off to the next town. Eros held Sin tightly, and my cousin fell asleep with tears still streaming down his cheeks.
Lionel sat in the front seat, twisting and turning a map in his hands and trying to direct Zack. I caught Zack’s eyes in the rearview mirror and he gulped. “How’re you doing, T?”
I shrugged without a word. There were no words for the fury and anguish I felt coursing through my veins in adrenaline. We passed another black SUV–the only car we saw on the trip. Zack drove on casually for about another mile before we saw smoke and flames in the distance. I sniffled quietly as tears fell from my eyes. I looked back at the rearview mirror, and my eyes were solid black.
“What do we do?” Zack asked gently as he pulled into a supermarket parking lot. An empty parking lot.
“We go back to Aragon,” I nodded. “He said he wants the cure for himself, so let’s give him the mutated virus and kill him. Then we’ll work on saving those who are left.”
Zack gulped, “Treble, are you sure?” My eyes flashed to his and he quickly averted his eyes back to the road as he parked the car so we could open a portal. I climbed out of the car and–forgetting Sin was asleep–slammed the door. He sat up with a start, but with the fury in my head, I couldn’t find it in myself to apologize like I knew I needed to. Zack joined my side, silently. Waiting for my reaction.
“Are my eyes still black?” I asked quietly. He nodded.
“I think you’re idea is perfect–about killing him and stuff,” Zack nodded again. “He saw how we reacted to this, so it would make sense that we worked our asses off to fix it immediately.”
I let out a long breath. “I want to cut off his limbs and burn them in front of him.”
“I know,” Zack said gently with a voice softer than silk. “What do we do if his other minions want revenge for his death?”
“We kill them, too. The cure would only be for those in the building, and if they’re in the building, then they support him.”
Zack nodded. “That could be true,” he trailed off.
“But…?”
“Jacob,” he shrugged. “I mean, I’m sure they aren’t nearly as tolerant as he is, but there are probably some that disagree with his choices.”
“If they disagree they would’ve left. Jacob was the youngest and didn’t have the guts to stand up for himself,” I pointed out. Av opened up a portal to Aragon and we grabbed all the crates out of the car before leaving the newest form of Hell. After making it back to Aragon, I decided I wanted to talk to Jacob. Blade was in his room, and she asked if I wanted to be alone. I said yes.
