The night was long. Iris talked until ten thirty before finally yawning and falling fast asleep between me and my husband. My angel husband. Zack blinked his stunning blue eyes at me, and I smiled at him. He leaned over to kiss me.

My thumb traced over his jaw as I kept his lips on mine. He let out a soft sigh as my fingers trailed down his neck and onto his shoulder. Iris stirred, and we both paused to make sure she was still asleep.

“The best thing about me being an angel,” he whispered, “is that I’ll never hurt you again. I’ll never have another dark age, and I’ll never run the risk of leaving you.”

I kissed him with a smile, “That and your feathers.” He nodded. “I love you, Zack. More than anything.”

He yawned before nodding. “I love you, too, sweetheart. I’ll love you forever.”

I kissed his nose, “You’re tired.”

“I’m talking to you. I’ll be fine,” he shrugged. “I love our night conversations.”

I ran my fingers through his hair, eyeing his lips tentatively. “When do you think they’ll be back from Earth?” Zack shrugged, pecking my mouth. I hoped they came back soon. I was worried. Something just ached in my mind for me to go to Earth with them. Maybe it was just me being a control freak. I brushed it off. “We should get some sleep.”

He nodded, kissing me quickly. “I love you. Sweet dreams, sweetheart.”

“Of course they’ll be sweet. They’re all about you,” I kissed his cheek. “I love you, Zack, baby. More than anything.”

“I love you, too, Treble, darling.”

“I love you more, Zack, my beautiful angel.”

“I love you most, Treble, my stunning Savior.”

I laughed quietly, “You beat me with alliteration.”

Zack giggled softly, and I ran my fingers over his feathers. His left wing was under Iris and I petted it until Zack fell asleep. I got out of bed, stepping out onto the balcony. Torches lined the cobblestone pathways and a few Beings were still out. I could see the Innocence building was still jam-packed, and I laughed quietly.

“So I don’t know if you can hear me,” I said quietly, “but, Sin, if you have any control over what happens to our friends, keep them safe. I’ve got a bad feeling about them being on Earth. I mean, I know they’re tough, and they can defend themselves, but I care about them. A lot.”

I was quiet, leaning against the railing. Watching Heaven. The warm air was a comfort, and I basked in the early-summer breeze. I decided Zack and I would go swimming tomorrow. Take a break from the Savior life, and just relax. Plus it was late spring, and the water would be warm everywhere except for Aragon. Aragon was beginning to set into winter. We could go to Atlantis.

I’d never been to Atlantis. How odd for the Savior–previously a mermaid–to never visit a world. I hadn’t visited a lot of worlds, actually.

“Did you just pray to me?” Sin was topless next to me. “I was in the middle of important business, but that was just so weird. I swear you just prayed to me.”

“I did.”

“Why?”

“Didn’t you listen to it?”

“Well, yeah, but why pray? You’re the Savior. You are kind of your own God. You don’t need my help.”

“I do now,” I said softly. “Something just feels wrong. Am I just being a control freak? This is worse than anything I’ve felt before, Sin. It’s ridiculous.”
