Reid's Point of View
As soon as Olive disappeared upstairs, I turned to our family. "Okay, I have a plan but I'm going to need everyone's help to pull it off. Rebecca, in the piano bench there is Elton John sheet music. Do you think you could work out how to play Your Song in the next ten minutes? It's Olive's favourite." Well one of her many favourites.
"Already know it boss." Rebecca smiled and went over to the piano bench to practice.
"Alright, Melody, you remember those matching pink dresses we got for you and Jean? Do you think you can get dressed in yours real quick?"
"Yes I can Dad!" Melody took right off. I don't think I'll ever get used to her calling me dad, but it made me happier than anything. Melody may not be mine biologically, but I will always try to be the dad she needs.
"Okay, Andrew, can you go with Will and help him pick out something nice to wear?" I asked. Andrew was the only one I trusted in this house to pick him out something wedding appropriate. He and Will agreed and went upstairs while I turned back to everyone else, "Okay, we don't have a lot of time until Olive comes back downstairs, but if you could move the furniture out of the way, we could probably set up a nice dancefloor. I'm just going to get Jean in her dress if you are alright doing that?"
Everyone agreed and started moving everything out of the way. As I went to go upstairs, Daisy came over to me. "I'll stall Olive so don't rush. Just text me when everything's ready and I'll send her down."
"You're the best Daisy." The two of us went upstairs, her disappearing into my room while I went to Jean's. As I was walking upstairs, I noticed that Jean was doing her pooping face, so after a quick diaper change, I put her in her little pink dress and put a matching bow in her hair. She just giggled away like the happy little girl she is, grabbing tight on my beard and yanking it. I'm sure she's going to cause some bald spots from all this yanking, but I really didn't mind. I would do anything to see her happy smile.
I went downstairs to see everyone waiting for me. All the furniture had been moved against the walls. Everyone was standing around chatting. When I reached the bottom of the stairs, Olive's dad came up to me. "Hey son, before my daughter steals you away, mind if we have a little chat?"
"Oh-um, yeah of course." I felt a pit of nerves start brewing in my stomach. While I don't regret getting married to Olive today, I can only imagine how upset he must be that he missed his daughter's wedding. I know how upset I'd be if I missed any of the kids getting married. Oh god, I cannot let myself think about that. I will start crying if I start thinking about them being all grown up.
"Just want to say how happy I am that Melody finally has a good dad. You keep up the good work and I'll forget about the whole eloping thing." He said giving me a clap on the shoulder.
"Wow, thanks Al. I was not expecting you to say that. I will promise to be the best dad I can be... and a great husband to Olive too."
"I know that. Now give me my granddaughter. She needs to spend more time with Grandpa. Don't you little Jeanie?" He cooed as I happily passed Jean over to him. Jean had just about everyone wrapped around her little finger. Well, her and her cousins Mackenzie and Damien. The three of them were adorable together. I can't wait to watch them all grow up together.
A slap on the back from my brother brought me out of my thoughts. I looked up at him as he wrapped me up in a hug. No matter how many years he's been taller than me, I will never get used to it. I still remember the kid when he was a little shrimp instead of the giant he is now. "Welcome to married life bro." He said, "It's amazing to hear that you're adopting Melody too, and Will is so excited about Olive adopting him too. You're just having the best day ever."
