CHAPTER 10
My flight home was brutal. Lonely and brutal. Emotions had taken over me on my trek home. And once I got there, I became overwhelmed.
I had to say goodbye.
I hate saying goodbye.
I was leaving my home behind, I was leaving my friends behind and I was leaving my life behind, just so I could travel across the Atlantic Ocean, to start a new life, make new friends, and get used to my new home. It wasn't going to be easy, but nothing in my life ever was.
I packed up my room a little bit everyday, but I always found myself stopping because I was getting lost in the memories of my bedroom, where I grew up. Where I used to fear monsters under my bed as a toddler.Get sent to my room in a time out as a kid. Cry my heart out as a preteen and spend countless hours awake until the early morning gossiping as a teenager. My room held so much emotion that it tore me up to clear it out. But with Josh's help and my closest friends, I was able to get the job done by the end of the week.
On my last day at home, my friends planned a small going away thing. My two best friends Katrina and Valerie, managed to convince my brother to let me have a few friends over for my last night. I asked them to keep it simple, so I found myself sitting in my old bedroom on the cold hardwood floor with four or the most important people in my life next to me.
There was Katrina, my best friend all through high school. She was arguably my other half.
There was Valerie, my next door neighbour and best friend since I changed elementary schools in grade four.
There was Jason, my best guy friend. I've known him for as long as I could remember. He was more of a brother to me than anything.
And finally Dylan. I had met him last summer when his cruise ship was docked at the island. He lived in New York, but Katrina and Valerie somehow managed to get him up here.
It was prefect. Just four people I loved, coming together to say good bye. I can't lie and say I didn't end the night in tears. I was bawling by the time we all started getting tired. I wasn't ready to leave them, not just yet. If they fell asleep, well then I would be that much closer to leaving. I cried in Dylan's arms, knowing he would hold me tight. But then Jason felt neglected so he took a turn holding me and that just made me cry harder. Once I thought I was okay, I looked over at Katrina and saw her eyes water too and my tears just started flowing again. Everything seemed to be coming to an end. Valerie tried to sooth me while I cried, and I knew I should try and stop, for their sake. And at one point I did manage a smile. They all knew I loved I laugh, so that's what they did, they made me laugh. Instead of thinking about what we were going to miss, we began thinking about the good times we had together.
All was going well until I found myself still awake at 3am while my friends slept soundly beside me. My mind was wide awake while my body begged me to sleep. I looked at the four people with me and couldn't help thinking there should be five.
I have spent a whole week without Liam and I don't know how I was still functioning properly. There wasn't one day or night that he didn't cross my mind, even in the slightest of ways. He meant so much to me. He still does. It's hard to forget someone when all you want to do is have them by your side to hold onto in times of need. Or be in their arms in times of fear. You want that someone to smile with when nothing is wrong. But most of all, you want that someone to show affection to. To kiss them and love the taste of their lips just because you can't imagine being as close to anyone else as you are with them. You want to hold their hand tight and show signs of never letting go, because they need to known what they mean to you.
