CHAPTER 14

My first day of classes was definitely an experience to have. I started out with Introduction to kitchen work, which I absolutely loved! The head chef is extremely nice and helpful. Next I had Freehand drawing. It was an odd class. There were no desks or tables, just easels. Also the teacher was very laid back.

I made new friends in both those classes. I was finally happy to get to meet some people more like me. I caught up with Ann when we got a break from classes around lunch time. She was telling me about the beautiful instruments in the music hall. While I told her about the kitchens and student restaurants in the left wing. When we both finished, we went our separate ways, she went to her vocal classes while I went to English language arts. That class was definitely different than the others.

I walked into class and the room was full, with all the students completely quiet. I thought I was late, until I saw class hadn't even started yet. I spotted Hunter amongst the group. He smiled at me and removed his books from the empty desk beside him. He had saved me a spot. How did he know I was in his class? I walked over and sat down. "Why is it so quiet?" I whispered. The professor turned around. "No talking!"he snapped. I sunk down into my seat, "Ah, Ms. Darron, our Canadian student. Nice of you to join us," the professor said. I shared a glance with Hunter, how did he already know my name and where I was from? Hunter looked back at me clearly as confused as I was. The professor checked his watch, "Okay ladies and gentlemen, class has started. Welcome to first year English language arts, I am your professor, Mr. Stewart. This will not be an easy class, let me tell you that. You will struggle, you will find yourself over thinking your every step. But if you don't think you can achieve in this class, and if you don't love the English language arts then I suggest you leave right now." He paused and looked around the room. A couple people fidgeted in their seats but no one stood. "Good," Mr. Stewart said, "None of you are cowardly, I'm satisfied. Now take out a notebook or sheet of paper you are getting your first assignment."

Never had I imagined that on my first day of university that I would have to write a 1000 word essay. It was brutal, and I barely finished before we were dismissed. Hunter walked me to my sound engineering class as he went to his stage design class. "Are you working tonight?" He asked me. "Yeah, but I'm alone, you should come visit!" I exclaimed, resting a hand on the door handle. He smiled, "I would love to! Same shift as last night?" He asked. I nodded my head. "Okay, love, ill see you there." I cringed as he called me love. The only person who had ever called me love the way he did was Liam. "Okay," I mumbled, then pushed through the door. The room was bustling with energy. A complete contrast from my previous class. "Hey!" Ann said, running up to me, "Told you we would have this class together! Come on I saved you a spot!"

I've never had so much fun in a class ever before. My teacher was hilarious, and treated us like friends instead of students. The time flew by and soon he had told us class was over. I was disappointed to leave, but the class was emptying out quickly.

Ann and I raced back to our dorm. I got my uniform on for work, while she got dressed up for her date. I grabbed my book as she grabbed her wrist bands. I pulled on my high tops while she pulled on her combat boots. I looked plain, while she seemed to be beaming. "He said he'll pick me up at the cafe," Ann told me. "Well lets go then," I said.

"I'm so-o-o-o nervous!" Ann said, as she sat at the counter where I was cleaning. "Don't be! Niall is an amazing guy! Trust me, things won't get awkward, he's a funny guy!" She pursed her lips, "Yeah, but I'm so weird." "Join the club," I said, walking out from behind the counter. She followed me as I went to clear tables. "Brooklyn!" Ss exclaimed suddenly. "He's here!" She gripped my arm and I almost dropped my tray full of dirty dishes. "Ann!" I shrieked. "Oops, sorry," she said, releasing her grip. I steadied myself, "Ann, are you just going to stand there like a gawking idiot, or are you going to go get him?" "Um, I'm going to go get him, because gawking idiot does not sound attractive." I sighed and shook my head with laughter as I walked over behind the counter and set to work on cleaning dishes. The bell rang and I knew Niall had either come in, or Ann had left. "Why are you working?" I heard Niall's infamous accent. I shrugged my shoulders as I saw him vaguely in the reflective glass in front of me, "because it's my shift." "Liam's going to be disappointed," Niall said. I heard the bell ring again. "Well I'm sorry, but I have to work," I said, scrubbing the dishes more furiously than before. "Sorry mate," I heard Niall say, "Looks like this double date isn't so double anymore." I turned around and saw Liam by his side. I had no idea when he had gotten there. Liam glanced at me as Niall waited for him to come up with some sort of plan. "Um," he said as he saw me wipe my hands on my apron. He glanced over and saw Ann and Niall standing close together, almost like try we're already in a relationship. "You two go ahead, ill just go home or something." "Thanks mate," Niall said, slapping his back, "You're a good man." Liam smiled weakly as Niall turned back to Ann. "Shall we?" He asked. Ann smiled and nodded and with that, they left.
