CHAPTER 15

After I locked up the cafe, I walked home exhausted. I had had a long day with lots of things to think about, but all I really wanted right now was a nice hot shower, some comfy pajamas and a good book. I got back on campus with 10 minutes to spare before they closed the gates for the night. I sure hope Ann got in before me.

I made my way over to the north building and slowly managed to make it to my room. As I opened the door, I found it empty. I was praying now, Ann would make it in time. I wouldn't want to have to go to the front security building and have to convince them to let her in.

I fell down to my bed just as my phone buzzed. I sighed and ignored it, just wanting to sleep. But then it buzzed again and I reached for it on my table. "Hey! I'm coming up to the room, would it be okay if Niall comes up for a few minutes he wants to see it?" It was a text from Ann. I checked the second one she sent me, "Well I can't wait for an answer...We're coming up!" "UGH!" I moaned. Suddenly I heard the door open, "Why so nasty, Brooklyn?" I heard Ann's voice. I shoved my head into my pillow. Screaming but the sound was drowned out. "Should I go?" I heard Niall ask.

I let my shoulders slump and I was basically a dead body. "No, stay!" Ann said, "She's just grumpy." "Damn right I am," I said, rolling over and sitting up. "Brooklyn, are you okay?" Ann asked. "Oh yeah, I'm just tired and my life is a wreck. But, hey! At least I have a beating heart, right? At least I have the blessing of life!" "Brooklyn?" Ann said, starting to become worried. My mind was all over the place. "Hey Niall," I said, he turned to me, "You know Liam has been lying to you right?" Niall furrowed his eye brows and glanced at Ann. "Um, no...?" He said. "Yeah!" I said, "That whole thing were we don't know each other, well it's all a lie! We've been dating for over a year-" "WHAT?" Ann cut in. "Yeah!" I responded. Watching the shock cross both their faces. The truth was finally out, I was probably going to regret it all later, but there was no taking it back now. "What? Where? When? How?" Ann stammered. "We met at our beach houses. We fell in love and we kept falling even more everyday. Turns out that after we were apart for a year I still loved him deeply. I thought he did too, until he didn't catch me as I kept falling. He broke up with me two weeks ago! Two weeks! And he kissed me tonight, wanting me back!" "He kissed you?!" Ann said, her eyes wide. "Yeah!" "And?" Ann said, "What did you do?" "I did nothing," I told her, "He just pulled away, and suddenly seemed guilty or ashamed. He left while apologizing."

"He still loves you," Niall said. I almost forgot he was there. "No he doesn't," I said. "Are you kidding me?" Niall said, "I know when he's in love. He becomes shy and he feels like he's invading your life and annoying you, that's why he backs away." "That makes no sense," I state. "Well this is Liam were talking about," Niall said. I groaned again and fell back to my pillow. "What should I do?" I yelled, making my voice loud to be heard over the muffle of the pillow. "Awe, sweetie," Ann said, sitting down on my bed and pulling back my hair the way my mother always did.

Ann may be a fun and outgoing girl, but in that tone of voice, she can take on a level of maturity that makes you feel small and cared for.

"If you love him, why do you have to question it?" She said. I shrugged my shoulders and freed my mouth from the pillow, "Because there's always going to be hate now because of the fans, and my father doesn't approve of us." "Brooklyn, stop thinking about making other people happy, you've done it all your life. I know because you tell me about all the selfless things you do, in a modest way. You need to think about your well being for a change, do what makes you happy. You're already here at the university doing something that makes you happy. So why not be with someone who makes you happy as well." I sighed, "I'm scared," I whispered. "I know, sweetie, I know," Ann said, rubbing my back. "Do you want me to talk to him?" Niall asked. He had become so quiet in my break down that I forgot he was there again. "What would you tell him?" I asked, looking up into his blue eyes almost the same as mine. "The truth," Niall said. He saw me hesitate, "He deserves to know, Brooklyn." I sigh, "You're right, but...but I think I should do it," I said, looking at Niall then to Ann. "Okay," they both said. "I-I need some rest," I mumbled. "That's fine," Ann said, "I'm going to walk Niall out and I'll be back soon, try and get some shut eye." I nodded my head and was already falling asleep as Niall and Ann left.
