CHAPTER 13
"Should I text him?" Ann asked me as we sat awake in our dorm the next morning. "Sure," I told her as a yawn escaped me. "No, it's too soon," she said, looking down at her phone. "Then don't text him," I told her. "Should I call him," she asked, barely listening to my words. "It's up to you," I said, drumming my fingers along my notebook. "But what if the conversation gets awkward," she said. "Ugh, Ann! Give me your phone," I said, holding out my hand. She nervously put into my palm, and I flipped it around and snatched up the piece of paper with Niall's number on it. I dialled and waited as it rung. Four rings later, Niall's strong Irish accent was ringing in my ears. "Hello?" He said. "Hi, Niall, this is Ann's friend Brooklyn, we met at the cafe yesterday," I said. I saw Ann's eyes become wide. She kept shaking her head no, signalling for me to hang up. I shoed her away as I got to my feet. "Oh, yeah, you're the one that knows Liam, but doesn't, but then kind of does," Niall said. "What?" I said, walking over to the window. "Never mind. You're just the girl that Liam knows... So, remind me again, why you're calling." I rested my hand on my waist. "Ann was too shy to text you and too nervous to call you," I saw Ann jump up from her bed. Soon she was on my back, trying to get the phone away from me. But I continued talking to Niall, "Oh yeah, she's crazy over you! Hasn't been able to stop talking about you!" "Brooklyn!" Ann screamed. She almost knocked the phone out of my hand and I accidentally pressed speaker phone, "Really?" Niall's voice rang through our small dorm. "Yup, she talked about your eyes and smile and laugh all night!" "Yeah, well Brooklyn rejected some guy because she likes your friend!" Ann shouted at the phone. "Ann!" I screamed. "Oh, you mean Liam?" Niall asked. "Yes!" Ann shrieked. "No!" I shouted. "Ha!" Ann said, finally snatching her phone away, "Now I have my phone back and I have a name! I win!" She said. I lunged for the phone but she held it far behind her, "Ah, ah, ah! I wouldn't do that if I were you!" I stepped back. "Go-o-o-o-o-d Brooklyn," she teased. "That's funny," Niall said suddenly. "What is?" Both Ann and I asked at the same time. We shared a glance. "Liam has been talking a lot about Brooklyn," Niall said. "What?" Ann I both screamed. "Yeah," Niall said slowly, "He keeps on asking me if I think Brooklyn hates him. Which I don't see why she would, she doesn't know him." I cringed. If only he knew how well I do know Liam. "I-I don't hate him," I explained. "Yeah, I've tried telling him that, but he won't believe me," Niall said, "He said he's worried." "Ou-u-u-u-u-u!" Ann exclaimed, "He likes you-u-u-u!" "Shut up," I hissed at her. She raised an eye brow at me. "Yeah, I think he does," Niall said. "No, no he doesn't!" I said. "Don't deny it, Brooklyn! You've got another lover boy after you!" Ann teased. "Ann!" I warned. "We should go on a double date!" She exclaimed. "That sounds great!" Niall agreed. I saw Ann's cheeks become red as she realized she had technically just asked Niall out. I smirked as she struggled for words. "I think you and Ann should just go alone, Liam and I don't really know each other that well," I said. "Well neither do Ann and I! It will be perfect, you'll see!" Niall said. I pressed my lips together and fought back the urge to strangle Ann. "So, it looks like Brooklyn and Liam are coming," Ann said quietly, avoiding my stare. "Yeah," Niall said. I ran my index finger across my neck in symbolism to Ann that after she was off her phone, she was dead. "Ann?" Niall asked suddenly. "Yeah?" Ann responded. "Are you still on speaker phone?" Niall said. "Um, yeah, why?" "I kind of wanted to speak to you alone," Niall said nervously. She looked up at me with worried eyes, but I just rolled mine and dropped into my bed. Ann switched her phone off of speaker and began talking in hushed tones with Niall. I focused on the stucco ceiling above me.
Thanks to Ann, I just got pushed to go on a date that I didn't want to go on. I wasn't ready to face Liam one on one! We had too much history to fix things over a simple double date. Who knows if we would even try to fix things.
