CHAPTER 11

"Ann..." I whispered standing over my room mate as she slept. "Ann?" I said a little louder. She had to wake up or we would be late for our first shift at the cafe. "Ann!" I yelled, shaking her. She groaned and rolled over, shoving her face into the pillow. I placed my hands on my waist, "Fine then, be that way, but you're going to miss out on that hot guy who works with us today!" She rolled over, dropping her hands to her side, "I'm up," she moaned, "I'm up." "Good!" I said throwing her uniform at her, "Lets go, we need to be there in 25 minutes." She sighed and pulled herself out of bed.

It had been a few days since Ann had gotten us those jobs down at a local cafe off campus. Yet, she seemed to have trouble committing. I was always having to wake her up for work, and that was a task in itself, she never wanted to get out of bed.

I had gotten used to London so far. And because of the amount of students that applied to the university and got in at the last minute, the first day of classes has been pushed back two days.

Ann and I have become closer within the few days we've known each other. It was weird how just a walk around the campus, a self guided tour of the classrooms and sharing a room together could bring us to be this close. We seemed to get along like we had known each other for ever. We had many things in common which made for easy topics, yet so many things that were different that our conversations never got boring. School life didn't seem so terrible after all. As long as I had someone like Ann to keep me on my toes and keep me guessing.

We arrived at work and Ann was immediately set out to work the floor, while I got stuck behind the counter, serving anyone who dared sit at the lonely bar stools. I didn't mind all that much, Ann was the more friendly and out going one of the both of us. I was still a little too shy for that job.

I spent a good two hours doing nothing. I would wipe down the counter here and there, make coffee and add some new pastries to a display case, but other than that, I got to sit back and watch Ann work her magic.

I was lost in my thoughts and was staring at a random place on the wall. When a group of guys from the university walked in. I recognized them from our freshman group that took a tour of the university together. They stayed in a pack as they found a booth at the back of the cafe. I didn't pay much attention as Ann walked over to take their order. I heard them complimenting her, but not in the sweet way, in the cocky way that made you feel sick to your stomach.

I rolled my eyes as Ann walked up to me, she just laughed and shook her head, "They're so full of themselves!" She exclaimed. I laughed and took the paper she was handing me. She sat down on the stool as I got the order ready. "I mean like, come on, we've been at the university for a week and they already think they are the hottest guys on campus. Seriously, like this isn't high school!" I laughed as I poured their coffee.

"Excuse me?" I heard someone say. I didn't think they were talking to me until Ann said, "Hey, Blondie! You got a customer!" I spun around and saw one of the boys from the back table has migrated his way over here. I handed Ann half the things she needed and she came behind the counter to finish. I looked at this boy with black hair and green eyes. "What can I do for you?" I asked, practically in a monotone voice. He smiled up at me, "You go to the university right?" He asked. I nodded my head. His smile grew wider, "I love your accent, it's quite mesmerizing." "Mhm, sure it is," I said. "Oh, a feisty one," he said. I raised an eye brow at him. I saw him glance over his shoulder, back at his friends. "Did your 'friends' send you over here to make fun of me and lead me on?" "What?" The green eyed boy turned back to me. "You know, I'm smart enough to see through your act," I told him. I wasn't in the mood to be messed with by idiotic freshmen who still act like they're in high school. "Truth is...Brooklyn," he said, looking at my name tag, "I have been admiring you from afar, ever since I saw you on the tour. My friends say I'm stupid for going for you because you'll only leave and go home eventually, seeing as you're not from around here. They do think I'm here to flirt with you and bug you, but really I'm here to...you know...possibly...ask you out on a proper date." I furrowed my eye brows at him, "Why would you want to ask me out?" He studied my face, "I find you fascinating. Your beauty is unlike any other's. I'm attracted to you for reasons I cannot even form." He seemed too good to be true. His words seemed so full of fake emotion, but his British accent made me weak. This accent always seemed to do this to me. I didn't want to say yes, I knew he was probably part of the performing arts students and was a hell of an actor. "I don't even know your name," I told him, trying to play the card of the fact that we don't even known each other. "My name is Hunter, I'm majoring in English Language Arts. I'm 18 years old and I love food," he said. I couldn't help but smile, because the way he said that just kind of made him seem sweet and dorky. "There, I gave you four facts about myself, now it's your turn!" He said with a sincere smile. I giggled slightly, "My name is Brooklyn, I'm 18 years old. I'm majoring in Culinary Arts and by that I guess you can tell I love food too." "Oh-h-h-h, a lover of food!" He said in a strange voice that made me laugh. "Well maybe we should share our love for food over dinner sometime." I felt my cheeks become warm, "Possibly." "Hunter!" I heard the guys from the back table call away the black haired boy. "Well maybe you could get back to me on that one." I nodded my head, "Maybe." He smiled at me as he left, "I'll be waiting," he said. I smiled and watched him leave.
