The chief had dismissed Cathy after she had "forgotten". Alaina had been worried she would have gotten punished, but she didn't. Alaina watched as two more guards in black came in and escorted Cathy out of the meeting hall. When she looked back at Alaina she gave a sad smile and mouthed she would meet her at their favorite spot.
Alaina smiled then turned back to a very aggravated Chief. Alaina folded her hands behind her and looked at her shoes.
"What was that?" The Chief demanded.
"I don't know what you mean." Alaina lied.
"I think you do." The Chief said. "What was she going to say?"
"I honestly don't know m'am." Alaina responded "I never really know what that little one is going to say next."
The Chief folded her arms over her chest. "That is typical for children. They never know what to and to not say." She sighs looking around the large room.
"Very true m'am." Alaina said.
"But you know better then a child." The Chief went on. "I could ask you a question and you would give me a straight honest answer."
Alaina looked up from her shoes. She stared at the women in front of her. She had a superior look on her face that made you want to shrink so small no one could see you. Alaina nodded once, knowing it was what the Chief wanted.
"Good." She smiled. "Now I'm going to ask you a question and you are going to give me a straight, honest answer." Alaina nodded again. "Good. Here is my question: what, exactly, do you say to Cathy before she goes to sleep?"
Alaina took a deep breath and let the familiar words tumble out of her mouth. "Sleep tight little one. Remember I only love two things in the world: you and the light of the moon."
"And what does that mean?" The Chief asks.
"What does what mean?" Alaina replied trying to aggravate the Chief so she would send Alaina away.
"The moon light part." The Chief said, her words dipped in aggravation.
"That means..." Alaina's eyes glanced everywhere around the room begging for something to change the subject.
"Alaina!" The Chief yelled. "Straight answers or else!"
Alaina looked back at her shoes and placing her hands in the pockets of her pants hiding the fists she was making. She thought of how the Chief now knew that Alaina loved nothing more then Cathy. Would she hurt her? Alaina wouldn't take the chance.
"It means I enjoy going out at night." Alaina explains.
"Doing what?"
"Things."
"What things?"
"Me things."
"Alaina! I swear!"
"I like going out at night and spying on the Emperor!" Alaina screamed. "Now stop pestering me."
The Chief didn't look shocked, only satisfied. She turns away from Alaina smiling her superior smile. She placed her hands behind her back and started to walk up towards the alter that stood at the end of the hall. The rebels used it to stand on when talking to a large crowd.
"That's just what I wanted to hear." The Chief admitted turning back to Alaina.
"It is?" Alaina answered shocked.
The Chief nodded. "You are just the person I need for a mission." She explains.
"I am?" Alaina mutters.
