Alex hadn't wanted Alaina to leave, not as soon as she was. She had told him the plan, then had stood up, causing him to stand with her. She had wrapped her arms around his neck, smiling at him.

"I have to leave." She said.

Alex then grabbed her waist and pulled her closer. "So soon?" He replied.

"Unless you want me to stay." Alaina had laughed.

Alex then smirked down at her "I haven't seen my girlfriend in forever and she is asking me if I want her to stay. Wow."

Alaina had then laughed. "What do u want to do, then!"

"We can sit here and read." Alex suggested. "That's about all I can do."

"I'm about to change that." Alaina smiled.

Alex smiled down at Alaina as she gazed into his dark brown eyes. He leaned down to kiss her, he felt their lips brush-

"Alaina!"

The door burst open and Cathy barged into the room. Alaina pulled away from Alex and stared at the smaller girl.

"What is it?" Alaina sighed bending down in front of Cathy.

"It's supper time." Cathy explained. "If we don't get down there they will suspect. Plus they will be bringing his dinner."

"Damn it." Alaina muttered. She turned back to Alex who was looking slightly disappointed. "I have to go."

Alex hung his head "I thought so." He said rubbing his neck with his hand. He looked down at Alaina. "Will I see you again soon."

Alaina stood up, glanced over at Cathy, then walked over to Alex. She reached up, wrapping herself in Alex's arms, and kissed him for a long second. She heard a giggle from Cathy and felt a smirk on Alex's lips. She pulled away, hearing footsteps getting closer.

"I'll see you real soon." Alaina smiled.

Alex smiled back down at her, getting lost in the bright blueness of them. Beside them Cathy coughed and tugged on Alaina's shirt. Alaina looked down at the smaller girl and blushed. Alex watched as she walked away. She opened the door letting Cathy through first, then looked back to Alex.

"I love you." She whispered before shutting the door.

Alex sighed and collapsed onto the couch with happiness.

Cathy and Alaina sat alone on one of the benches, at the end of a long table. They both ate their stew and ignored everyone else around them. The walk back from where Alex was imprisoned was fairly easy. Everyone was at dinner. Cathy and Alina had slid into the end of the line and gotten food without anyone noticing.

Alaina couldn't help but keep a small smile on her face. Cathy had stayed quiet the whole way back. Now she sat quietly and ate her stew. Noticing this odd behavior Alaina looked up at Cathy.

"Cat?" Alaina said "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine." Cathy answered.

"Come on." Alaina smiled "I know there is something up. So spill."

Cathy looked up at Alaina. "Do you mean it when you say you love him?"

Alaina was taken aback. "Yes" she told the younger girl. "Yes I do."

"Why?" Cathy demands suddenly, slamming down her spoon.

Startled, Alaina jumped. She stared wide eyed at the determined seven year old. "I can't explain why Cathy." Alaina tried to explain. "I just know I love him. That's like someone asking me to explain why I love you."

Tears gathered in Cathy's green eyes. She stood up took her bowl and threw it out. She walked back over to the bench, grabbed her book that she had left and was gone. Alaina sat there stunned by what had just happened. What had just happened? Alaina stood from the bench, as well. She took her bowl and threw it out too, she had lost her appetite.

Alaina then went to look for Cathy. She looked everywhere. In the bucks, in the meeting hall, the prison room, even in the conditioning area. But she didn't see Cathy anywhere. She could only be in one other place.

Alaina started off for their special place. In the entire camp, Alaina knew it was her favorite. Both of them had shared so many memories there.

"Cathy!" Alaina called when she got to the meadow. "Cathy!"

Alaina moved the grass around trying to find the hiding child, but still didn't see her. After fifteen minutes she gave up. Maybe she had missed something, some new hiding spot. She sighed and leaned against a large oak tree feeling tired. Her ankle was starting to hurt again, and it was going to be dark soon. She leaned her head back against the tree and opened her eyes looking into its large branched.

Alaina gasped seeing Cathy sitting in the tree, the book she had had with her balanced on one knee, while the other leg dangled in the branches. Cathy stared down at Alaina, tears making trails down her cheeks.

Alaina stood up quickly and climbed the tree to Cathy. Cathy moved over giving Alaina room, as she put her arm around the younger girl.

"Cat." Alaina said leaning her head on Cathy's "what's going on?"

"You love him!" Cathy wailed. "You love him and it's all wrong!"

"I don't understand, Cat." Alaina admitted. "Why is it wrong that I am happy?"

"It isn't." Cathy sniffed "but why with him. He is the enemy. He is trying to kill us. He is on their side."

"No, he isn't." Alaina tried to explain. "He helped me Cathy. He is on my side."

"Your side?"

"Our side. The two of us."

"But you love him. You love the enemy. Doesn't that make you the enemy too?"

Alaina gasped and pulled away from Cathy. She looked down at the smaller girl stunned by what she had just heard.

"Who put that idea in your head?" Alaina asked sternly.

"The Chief said it." Cathy told Alaina. "She said that if you loved Alexander then you were not to be trusted, that they would have to-to" new tear ran out of Cathy's eyes.

Alaina put her arm back around Cathy. "Hey, it's ok, it's ok." Alaina said soothingly "calm down, Cat."

Cathy took a deep breath and looked up at Alaina, her green eyes large and staring. "Alaina" she whispered "They're gunna kill you."
