Alaina opened her eyes and smiled. She was still in the cave with Alex. She remembered putting her lips on his and blushed slightly. She sat up a little more form the slouching position her and Alex had slept in. She stretched like a cat and turned to Alex.
He was still asleep, his face calm with no concerns. Alaina smiled and leaned forward kissing his cheek before standing up (with the help of a stick) and brushing herself off. She pulled more food out and started the fire up again. She began to make bacon and eggs that had somehow survived the ride into the forest.
Alex stirred slightly and barley opened his eyes. He smiled his heart melting smile and stretched. He then got up from the floor walking over to Alaina. She looked up as he walked over and leaned down to kiss her lightly.
"Morning beautiful." He said to her after pulling away.
Alaina smiled up at him. "Good morning handsome. You want some breakfast?"
"Love some!" He replied "Smells great!"
Alaina put two eggs and two pieces of bacon onto a plate for Alex and handed it to him. He took it gratefully. Alaina then got herself a plate and put out the fire.
"Wow!" Alex gasped "You are such a good cook, babe!"
"Thank you." Alaina blushed. "I used to be a cook for your sister. She liked eggs and bacon too."
"You knew my sister?" Alex asked putting down his fork.
Alaina nodded, not noticing Alex's change in mood. "Yup, we were best friends. I would cook for her then take it to her room. She would have tea parties with me and we would do each other's hair. She was so funny!"
Alaina laughed and looked up at Alex. His eyes were dark and he had gone tense all over. She stopped laughing and put down her plate, painfully moving to Alex's side.
"Are you ok?" Alaina asked concerned. After he didn't answer Alaina put her hand on his shoulder. "Alex?"
He didn't respond again. Alaina shook his shoulder. She was starting to get worried. She had never seen this part of Alex. She had seen him happy, angry, scared, annoyed, even drowsy but she had never seen him just zone out.
"Alex?" She called to him again. "Alex, baby, you're scaring me. Alex?"
Alex shook his head and looked at Alaina, tears were in his eyes. Alaina pulled him into a hug kissing his forehead. He let the tears fall but didn't make a sound. Alaina patted his back and sat there with him.
"Hey," she said after a while. "We should probably get going."
Alex nodded and packed all the supplies. He did everything in silence. He made sure no major signs they had been here showed. Alaina watched as Alex did everything feeling useless. After about half an hour Alex came back inside to help Alaina outside.
"Alex wait." She said as Alex picked her up and started to walk. He looked down at her with a questioning look. "I need to know you are ok with moving on. If not I'll find my way from here. You can go back."
Alex shook his head "I'm sorry, I know I freaked you out earlier." He said "My sister is just a very sensitive topic for me."
"Can I ask why?"
"Because I think my father poisoned her." Alex explained.
Alaina gasped. "Alex! I'm so sorry!"
"That man is a monster." Alex said looking outside the cave. "He's not my father."
Alaina reached up and put her hand on his face. She gave him a small smile which he retuned. He continued to walk out the cave and put her onto the horse. Then he swung on after her.
