Alex helped Alaina up onto a horse, then he got onto it after. He looked at her then down at her ankle. He could tell she was in more pain then she was letting on.
"Alaina-"
"Don't." She interrupts "We are loosing time. Just ride."
Alex kicks the horses sides and it starts off. Every movement of the horse under her set more waves of pain through Alaina. She had burst into tears in front of the guards on purpose. She had needed to be more dramatic, other wise she would have just bitten her lip to stop the crying.
"Where are we going again?" Alex asks Alaina over the wind.
"To the tribe." Alaina told him.
"Where is that?" Alex asked looking around towards the tree line.
"We will have to go through the forest." Alaina informed him. "We won't get there tonight. We will have to set up camp."
Alaina felt Alex nod behind her and turned the horse to the trees. They entered the shadow of the tree line when they heard a loud horn sounding from the way the had come. Alaina turned slightly on the horse and gazed up at Alex. He had stopped the horse and was looking towards the military fort.
"They know we left." Alex breathed "They know what we did to my father."
Alaina leaned back slightly against Alex, making him look down at her. She gazed into his dark eyes. They were so full of fear, and frustration and concern. Alaina imagine hers gave off the same emotions, but she had to fake she wasn't scared, or frustrated. Alaina reached up a hand and brushed some of his dark hair from his face.
"It will be ok." She told him.
"That's a lie." He smiled down at her "but a good one."
He smacked the reigns to the horse and it started off into the woods again. They were going to make it. They were going to get out.
'I'm going to be able to protect her.' Alex silently told himself, gazing down at Alaina's gold-blonde hair.
'I have to get him out of here.' Alaina thought to herself staring down at her broken ankle. 'Before it's too late'

"Alaina?" Alex's voice rang in Alaina's ears. "Alaina, I'm going to set up camp. Do you need help down?"
"Hmm?" Alaina monied, she opened her eyes and saw the trees around her.
She sat up a little straighter and noticed it was night fall now. The sun had already gone down. She turned a little on the horse to see Alex, in the same place he had been when she unconsciously fell asleep. She smiled up at him.
"I think I got it." She said.
Alex laughed "You do remember you have a broken ankle, right?"
Alaina smirked up at him and smacked his arm lightly. "I'm a big girl. I can handle myself."
"At least let me get off first and spot you."
"You can get off first and watch my amazingness."
Alex gave a heavy, dramatic sigh "fine."
Alex slid off the horse and to the ground. He stepped back and watched as Alaina swung her injured leg over the horse and set it on the ground. She hung from the horse for a second as she put her other foot to the ground, then let all her pressure be on that foot. She turned around smiling at Alex.
