Walking into school the next day, I couldn't help but smile. My mates were like my own personal guard dogs, growling at anyone who so much as looked in my direction. While part of me wanted to hate them for protecting me, I was begging to see the good in having somebody care for me. I felt...lighter. Like I could breathe. I feel like I could smile and actually mean it.

That's what they did to me.

Ryders hand tightened on mine as Carson growled at some poor red headed boy who had been gawking at us. I shook my head and poked Carson in the stomach, "Carson, you need to stop being so grumpy, you are acting like you have a stick up your butt." I mumbled as one of the teachers walked by us and glared at me. I smiled at him and he shook his head, Carson and Ryder both growled this time.

Sighing I let go of both of their hands and gripped the straps of my backpack tightly in my hands. "Guys!" I whined in protest to their protective nature.

Despite my annoyance I smiled as Carson wrapped his hands around my waist and nipped at my ear, "Oh stop acting like you don't love having us bark and snap at everyone for you." He huffed in my ear.

"Yeah, Babe, we can see you grinning and well, we can read your mind." Ryder made a face as he tugged at one of the hairs that had strayed from my long braid. I rolled my eyes as Ryder pecked my cheek and took my hand once again, "Let's get to class Little Mate." he hummed.

Carson swept to Ryder's other side and grabbed his hand with a pout on his face, "It's not too late to go home, guys. I have an idea of what we could do better with our time." He hummed mischievously. My face turned bright red as I buried my face in Ryder's arm.

"Oh gods." I laughed, "That actually sounds wonderful," I squeezed Ryder's hand meaningfully, "Lets ditch." I agreed.

Ryder huffed a long sigh and shook his head, "I do love spending time with you guys, but I actually have a big brain in my body," he says in a matter of fact like tone, "and I actually enjoy learning how to use it." He bit his lip. His wire glasses slid down his nose and Carson pushed them back up for him as we made it to the classroom.

"𝙄 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙗𝙖𝙗𝙮." Carson says through the link, "𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙖 𝙗𝙞𝙜 𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙙." he added slyly with an evil grin.

"𝘼𝙢 𝙣𝙤𝙩!" Ryder defended himself, appalled.

"𝙊𝙝 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙤𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙖𝙧𝙚!" I butted in giggling and hugging his arm adoringly.

"Is there something funny you would like to share with the class, Miss. Snow?" My first period teacher asked me with a glare. The whole class' eyes turned to me and I resisted the urge to shrink back into my mates. Inead I smirked and nodded my head, "Would you like to share?" She smirked right back at me.

I nodded my head in the direction of the clear glass on her table, "I also like that flavor of brandy Mrs." I grinned.

Carson, Ryder, and I managed to get all the way through all six periods before shit went down. We were sitting on the benches outside talking about how lame Ryder's biology teacher was, when a shrill voice rang across the yard from behind us. I knew without turning around that it was Holly, so I didn't turn. I stared at the book in my lap like it was the most interesting thing since string cheese. Ryder and Carson both tilted their heads and released a long annoyed sigh as Holly came stalking around to the front of our bench.

She put her pretty polished hands on her hips and snarled at me, "How dare you use your command on Jason and I!" She huffed in an ear piercing screech, "We were stuck there for fucking hours while you were having your freak show outside!" she stamped her foot in outrage. I waited for the spark of gult to hit me, but none came.

Finally, taking my sweet time, I looked up from my book, "Oh, hi Holly, didn't see you standing there." I smiled with false sincerity. Carson put his hand on my leg and Ryder just stared at her in annoyance.

"You ugly bitch, I hope you and your stupid as hell mates freeze out here in the cold!" Once again, her voice threatened to break my eardrums.

I rolled my eyes and looked down at my book, not even bothering to answer her. Carson stood and offered me a hand, I took it with a real smile on my face and reached my hand out for Ryder. I smirked as I said, "Let's go get some ice cream." and led my mates to the car, the three of us completely ignoring Holly like she was not there.

The act alone pissed her off more than words could as she stomped after us, "Hey! I'm not done talking to you! I'll tell Alpha!" She snarled.

I didn't turn to look back at her as I laughed, "Oh no! I'm so scared." I grinned. Not with my mates, I wasn't. Not with the love and pride that shone in their eyes I wasn't. Not with the love in my heart for them did I feel any fear at all. I just smiled and held their hands, sparks igniting at their touch. I smiled as Carson and Ryder pecked each other on the lips before Carson slid into the driver's seat, and I smiled as I snuggled into Ryder's chest as we sat in the backseat. My smile slowly faded as we started to drive, my only fear now was losing the little hope I had gained. The only fear I had now was losing the reasons I learned to love.

I looked up at Ryder and pressed a kiss to his lips, I would fight for them. I would never stop loving them, even when I become dust in the ground, they will be my reason for fighting.
