After Eleven had reunited with Mike, Lucas, Dustin and Ethan, she shoves past Max and towards Joyce and Hopper. Joyce leads Eleven to Will, who was sleeping peacefully in his bed. Eleven walks back into the main area a minute later, sitting at the dining table, working up a plan with the others to close the gate at Hawkins Lab. With a small fight between Eleven and Hopper, it eventually sparks another between Hopper and Mike, with Mike upset Hopper hid Eleven from him for almost a year without telling him, thinking she was dead.
But for now, Ethan had come to explain that if they killed off the Mind Flayer and it's army, Will would die with it; they had to separate Will from the Mind Flayer. Joyce, Jonathan, Dustin, Mike, Ethan, and Hopper went back to Will, with Joyce explaining how the Mind Flayer hated heat, how Will would take ice cold baths and sit in the snow before they caught onto the spy. So, they could burn it out. 'How exactly,' was the question. They couldn't kill the boy, but they had to force the Mind Flayer out of Will's body via heat.
"If Will's the host, then we need to make the host uninhabitable," Jonathan explains, connecting the dots
"We have to do it somewhere he doesn't know this time." Mike tells the adults.
"Yeah, somewhere far away." Dustin adds.
Hopper quickly offers his cabin for Will to get exorcized in, since it was deep in the woods and he had plenty of heaters set up inside, plus a fireplace. Joyce and Hopper quickly bundle Will up in a yellow blanket while Jonathan grabs his car keys. Ethan trails behind before Joyce runs out to the car with Will in her arms, Nancy at her side, helping with the car door.
"Take Denfield, then you'll see a large oak tree. You're gonna swing a right. That road is gonna dead-end. And it's about a five-minute walk from there." Hopper explains, giving Jonathan quick directions to his cabin.
Meanwhile, while Will was being exorcized, Eleven would go to close the gate with Hopper by her side. As Eleven and Mike were being separated again, Ethan was called inside to basically babysit his friends. Nancy would go with Jonathan and Joyce, and Steve would babysit the younger teens. With Ethan's power to keep the group safe, Steve basically needed him to keep his friends under control and protected. Ethan found his lack of ability to use his powers to help beyond annoying. He could probably exorcize Will himself, if he had the mental strength. Or, he could help El and Hop break back into the lab with his invisibility.
About three minutes later, Mike was pacing through the Byers' living room, probably worried sick about Eleven. Ethan was inside another room, trying to hold his invisibility, which he could barely do in the moment for some odd reason. He could hear Steve argue with Mike that they couldn't leave and they had to sit around and do nothing, and keep the Byers' house safe until the Mind Flayer was defeated.
"Fuck!" Ethan shouts, flickering between visible and invisible.
