The next morning I woke up, and stared at the ceiling for a few seconds until I remembered where I was and what happened yesterday. I volunteered for my best friend, Willow. Then suddenly, a knock on my door made me come back to focus. I got up and opened the door. "Good morning. Today, you're to get ready for something called a victory tour. Your stylists are here. Also, just so you know, since you went to bed early last night, you missed the other reapings. If you'd like, we can watch them tonight." Wireless stood at my door, already dressed.
When she signed, she gestured behind her when she said something about stylists, so I glanced behind her. Standing there were four people, all obviously from the capitol. The capitol has very odd fashion styles, and so that makes them look very different compared to the people in the districts. Wireless stood aside, so they could step into my room. Immediately, one of them started to nod their head.
"Quite pretty, yes yes, Violet will be pleased." The one that was nodding said. I flushed and looked down. "Oh, I'm sorry. I'm Erli, and I'll be doing your makeup." The woman who previously spoke, Erli, said.
"These are my friends, Darnia, and Blossom. Darnia's going to do you nails, and Blossom's going to do your hair. Violet designs your dresses for you to wear. Your very lucky. She's amazing at designing dresses..." Erli rambled on, but I toned her out after a little bit.
I kept nodding, and when she finished, Wireless spoke, "I'll leave you to it!" She then exited, closing the door behind her. The three women had me sit down and they started working. It was mainly quiet when they worked. Eventually, in a few hours, I was ready.
Even though I wasn't very much into fashion, I could still tell I looked great. My eyes had a blueish gray eyeshadow and dark eyeliner on, I had some light pink blush on, and to complete the make up, I had a pretty shade of pink lipgloss on. My hair was in two French braids with not one hair sticking out of place.
Soon, for the second time today, there was a knock on the door. Blossom got up and opened it, and another woman who I didn't recognize came in. She had died her hair a violet, which matched her name perfectly. She smiled at me immediately before sticking out her hand.
"Hi Ada. My name's Violet, and I design your dresses. Would you like to see what you're going to be wearing today?" She asked gently. I nodded, and she pulled two garments out of a bag. It was a crop top, (something I'd rarely wear normally) and a pair of matching shorts. The colors matched my eyeshadow perfectly, and it had white striped on it.
Violet stepped back and smiled. "You look great, Ada." "Thanks..." I signed back. I wasn't sure if she understood me or not, but Wireless chose that moment to step in, smile and say, "Ada, you've got to go get up on the chariot. Bolt's already there with Cordin."
I nodded before following her outside. I was very overwhelmed when my eyes adjusted o the bright sunlight. There were crowds of people screaming and yelling up in the stands. A handful of the tributes were already standing on top of there chariots. Since I hadn't watched the reapings yesterday, the only person I recognized was Bolt.
He smiled at me as I approached. He reached his hand out to help me up, and I grabbed it, politely thanking him once I got up on the chariot. "Hey. I know we didn't really get to properly meet yesterday, so I'm Bolt. You're Ada, right? Anyway, last night, I couldn't sleep, so I thought about strategy's in the arena. Would you like to ally?" He said.
I wanted to ally, but another part of me was screaming internally to not accept it. He was only one more competitor, and just one more person to stand in my way to finally gettin home again. I was trying to find the words to tell Bolt my answer, but just at that moment, a loud voice echoed through the stadium.
"Welcome to the 73th hunger games! I'm your host, Caesar Flickerman, and today is the day of the tribute parade! First up-we have district one... Jasper and Ruby!" Caesar said, trying to get the crowd riled up. As soon as he said the names of the district one tributes, their carriage was off. He introduced the district two tributes, and soon, I heard my name being announced, so I braced myself for the carriage to start moving.
It was surprisingly gentle as it began to move. I didn't know what I was supposed to do however. Grip Bolt's hand? Smile, wave, and blow kisses? Act like nothing was happening? The picture of my outfit popped up in my head, and I decided that since it was more cute than deadly, I waved and gave rare smiles.
Very soon, the carriage came to a halt, signaling that the parade had finished. People made there way back into their rooms, and I made to follow them, but I was stopped by a grip on my arm. "Good job out there. If your not too tired, I think we should watch the reaping." Wireless gave me a smile.
I nodded, it would be good to know some of my opponents before getting thrown into an arena with them for who knows how long. She guided me into what looked like it could be an extremely fancy sitting room. She sat down on one of the sofas, and gestured me to do the same as she turned on the television.
The tributes from district one and two were strong, just as always. Four also looked like they stood a good chance of winning. As the reaping continued, there weren't many other tributes that looked like they stood a chance. The tributes who stood out the most was one eleven year old girl from district 9, a girl with red, curly hair from district 7 who looked about my age, and an angry looking 18 year old boy with dark brown hair from district 9 also. A glare never left his face the entire time.
As the reaping came to a close, I began to wonder about my stately in the arena. I'd like to have an alliance with someone, but I'm not sure about who to trust. I think the girl from seven and the little girl from 9 would be good. Once I had said goodnight to Wireless, I walked to my room. The first thing that I did was go into the bathroom and wash all of the makeup off. I put my hair down and brushed it out before changing into a silk pajama shirt and plain gray shorts. Then I crawled into bed.
Am I going to survive in the arena?
*This is the outfit Ada wears in the parade. The photo doesn't belong to me.*
