The next morning, I woke up to rain splattering down, and onto my face. I looked around, and saw Mazie getting water. Squirrel was next to me, but she wasn't sleeping. When Mazie came back to our campsite, she saw that we were awake, so she got out a little bit of food.
Squirrel had the idea to make a canopy out of the hammock, so she tied it to two bamboo sticks above our heads. Then, we cleared the area, so we could sit down. Nothing happened in the morning, but the event in the afternoon was a sponsor, bringing another piece of cloth, so we made a hammock out of that. Nothing else happened in the afternoon either, so there wasn't anyone in the fallen that night. I decided that if it kept raining like this tomorrow, then I would make an electric trap for the careers.
Sure enough, the next morning, it was still pouring, so I explained my plan to the girls. I'm sure that either one of them understood it, but they agreed that they would help me. We made our way over to the career's camp, where they had made a rock fortress. I tied the wire that I had gotten from the cornucopia onto a tree, that seemed to almost be hit by lightning every time, then put the wire in between a rock that looked like it was used by for a door.
Multiple times, I felt like there was someone watching me, but there was no one there when I would turn around. Then, just before the lightning struck the tree, I stomped on the rock formation and quickly moved out of the way. I heard shouting inside of the rocks, and then the girl from district 4 came out, with the other careers pushing each other behind her.
The boy from district 2 seemed to think something was going on, because he was the last in line, and wasn't pushing anyone. Then, screams filled the air. But suddenly, a new scream became mixed in with the other tributes. Mazie came running into the clearing, being followed by Keith with his spear.
Sh must have forgotten about the lightning plan, because she ran right into the wire, crackling with electricity. My eyes widened as I watched the little girl die. Keith walked away, and me and Squirrel burst out of our hiding spots.
"Mazie!" I signed, as I dropped to my knees near her body. There wasn't much time, and I don't think that I'll be able to save her. There were already three cannon noises, sounding that careers were dead. The boy from two seemed to be paralyzed, but was watching us.
"Please win..." Mazie signed, before a cannon noise sounded. I could feel tears pouring down my face, mixed in with the rain that was still dripping. I closed her eyes, and kissed her temple the way an older sister would, before standing back with Squirrel, and going back to our campsite. The rain began to let up around dusk, so we laid down and took the canopy down a made it into a second hammock.
The fallen began with the girl from district 1, then the girl from 4, the boy from 4, and Mazie. Once the fallen finished, Squirrel offer to take first watch, so I began to drift off to sleep with tears rolling down my check. I could hear Squirrel quietly sobbing. I just hope I can win, for Mazie.
