Never in my life had I ever imagined myself in such a reckless situation. I wanted so badly to regret what had happened between Aaron and me but that would only make the situation be a case of 'I was sorry that I did it and not that I got caught'.
"What do you want, Andrea?" Aaron's muffled voice asked and I moved closer to his bedroom door to listen.
It sounded like he was still alone in the studio so i assumed that he hadn't let her in yet and was only talking to her through the doorbell intercom.
"... let me in, I just wanna talk." Andrea answered from the machine and I prayed that he wouldn't let her in.
I didn't know when I became this but I needed to save my own skin. My boss coming into her fiancé's apartment to find him naked with her employee was something that could possibly make the headlines.
"It's too early for this, Andrea. Why don't we talk over lunch today. You can pick the place." Aaron replied and I held my breath as I waited for her response.
"This is no way to treat you future bride."
"Stop being melodramatic all the time, Andrea. I'll meet you for lunch and we'll talk" Aaron held.
"You promise?" She asked softly.
Aaron paused and I could hear the defeat in his voice as he said, "I promise."
The click went off and the house was quiet again, hinting that she left.
I stepped out moments after making sure the coast was clear. I avoided his watchful gaze on me as I made my way around the space to gather my belongings and without a single glance at him, I walked to his door.
"Aria? Please let me give you a ride back" he said in a flat and pleading tone. Tension had risen between us again.
"I've got it, thanks" I replied, still not sparing him a single glance. I rushed out before he could come after me.
Even though I was super conscious of my surroundings after stepping out from his place, I just needed to be out of there, so I hailed the first taxi that approached me, I got in and left, ignoring the fact that I was on a walk of shame.
The rest of the day was quite slow and just a boring Monday. I tried to avoid any thoughts of Aaron as best as I could but what didn't help was when I spotted him and Andrea getting into his car together during lunchtime. I watched them from across the street while I picked up my lunch, neither of them knew I'd been watching them but I felt a tinge of jealousy. I had no rights to be jealous but it wasn't something I could control. I tried hard to go about my day without letting him into my thoughts again.
He didn't bother to contact me and I wondered if the previous night meant anything to him. Or maybe he needed to get me out of his system, he had literally been after me for some time, his confession at the fundraiser was one proof that he wanted me as much as I wanted him but now that he had gotten me, he was probably going to focus on his wife-to-be and forget I ever existed.
By evening, I went with Mr Carter to the showcase and did my job. I discovered I really enjoyed this side of my new job; going to different showcase and viewing great collections and helping my client with new and amazing picks.
"It's really a great pleasure working with you, Ms Vitale" Mr Carter shook my hand and gave a toothy grin. "The decoration can commence in a few days and I hope our effort won't be wasted."
"I'm glad you are getting a hang of this and I assure you that this is a new phase of amazing art recognition" I smiled back at the two men in front of me—the other man who Mr Carter had introduced to me as Antonio Giuliani, a potential partner in the business.
