It was exactly 3:30 pm, Wan was home watching TV when he heard someone knocking at his house gate.
'I'm coming! He said as he put on his slippers and moved toward the gate.
'Huh... Miss Simoni?... what is she looking for?' He asked himself as he peeped through the gate.
He opened the gate for her and Simoni entered as he asked her to come into the house.
'It been a while Miss' he said as he placed a tray with a cup of juice by her side.
'Uhm... sorry for invading your privacy..but I wanted to .... (Confidently) Ok...listen, the thing is that I'm new here, I don't have friends and I decided to celebrate my birthday in a low key way but my Godfather wouldn't let me... so I would like to invite you to my birthday party next weekend' said Simoni
'(Astonishingly) you want to invite me to your birthday party?... Uhm sorry you mean you are inviting me?' Wan asked jokingly
'Well.. yes.. but if you are busy, if you are having a tight schedule, no qualms..' Simoni laughed as she looked tense.
'No worries, I'm free next weekend and I can bring my friends if you don't mind right?' Wan asked.
'Of course I don't mind. You can bring them, Alec and Lydia, right?' Simoni asked
They both smiled at each other, looking tense in an awkward atmosphere. Wan went to get her a glass of Juice then tried to break the silence by asking Simoni about her personal life. Simoni felt a little comfortable by telling him happy memories she had with her mother before she died in Greece.
'Well, that is just it' said Simoni as she forced a smile.
Wan recollects the drunk night scenario about Simoni's mother and he sighed.
'You know there was a time I felt so way out of this world... you know that feeling that you are alone in this world, even when you have people with you' said Wan
'You truly have people by your side, love ones ... why do you feel alone? Simoni asked
'Hmm well you are right. I have people I love and I believe they love me too (looking relieved) I had that feeling right from my childhood but I guess the thought still lingers' Wan told Simoni.
'Different people with different fevers right?' Asked Simoni
'Yes, you get it ( standing from his seat) ....Do you wants cookies?' Asked Wan
'No thanks, I should be on my way soon' said Simoni
'Well, I could pack it for you. (smiling as he stroke his hair) oh come on... are you going to refuse me?' Asked Wan
'Ponirós ántras' said Simoni
'Huh? What.. what is that? Did you just curse me?' Wan said panicky
Simoni laughed at him as she enjoyed the look on his face to her speaking Greek which he thought was a curse.
'Chill Mr. I said 'Sly Man' (smiling) ... it is in Greek. I can speak Greek' said Simoni
Wan's curiosity increased by asking her why she learned Greek. Simoni quickly discards the conversation by informing him that she is about to leave.
'oh okay... let me pack the cookies' said Wan as he left for the kitchen
Simoni Looked sad as she recollect her memories so far from her mother's death to her coming to Nigeria, she sobs silently and Wan came back to the sitting room with a Cookie jar.
'Are you okay?' Wan asked as he noticed Simoni cleaning her tears quickly.
'I'm fine thanks.. so can I have my cookies?' Asked Simoni as she forced a smile
Wan handled the cookie jar and escorted her out, he told her it was nice talking to her and she left smiling.
Wan wondered what could be behind the hurt feelings and aura he felt around Simoni. All he knows was that Simoni is another broken soul just like him who are both trying to find their feet walking well.
