Why did Sirius have to make her promise to be kind to Draco? Draco had threatened her with her own wand. He had gripped her throat with his hand with no remorse in his eyes. Why couldn't Sirius just take the hint that Sophie had already tried to be kind to Draco. Well maybe not kind, but she did try to get him to sit with her in the evenings.
A few days had passed and Draco had not seen much of Sophie. She had attended mandatory dinners, but other than that she was always cooped up in her bedroom. She didn't hog the water pitcher anymore. Draco would make his way to the kitchen late at night for water, and she would be nowhere to be found. He couldn't help but wonder if he had scared her off the other night in his bedroom. He felt a small twinge in his gut every time an opportunity to spend with her was gone.
No. She's a blood traitor.
Draco would repeat in his mind every time he found himself wanting to be near her. It wasn't a want to be her friend.
Merlin no.
It was just a want to be around somebody.
He was enjoying tormenting her. It was the only source of entertainment he had in Grimmauld Place.
Being alone in his bedroom all day was beginning to take a toll on him. He wasn't allowed to communicate with anyone from school, and as much as he tried to be okay with being alone, he found himself feeling rather lonely.
Stop you idiot.
Draco repeated over and over every time he felt the urge to leave his bedroom on knock on her door.
The next morning Draco sat in the kitchen alone eating breakfast. He woke up before Sirius and Sophie in order to enjoy his breakfast by himself. He had no interest in getting to know either of them.
He took another bite of toast as the kitchen door swung open and Sirius strutted in. "Well good morning Draco!" Sirius beamed as used his wand to poor himself a cup of coffee.
Draco rolled his eyes as his mouth formed a frown of disgust. He took another bite of food and shook his head.
"Not a morning person?" Sirius asked before taking a sip from his mug.
Draco stayed silent.
"Hmm. I'll take that as a yes." Sirius nodded his head and took a seat at the table.
A moment later the kitchen door swung open again and Sophie paused in the doorway as she saw Draco sitting at the table. Draco looked up at her and examined her appearance. Her dark hair was sleek and shiny as it lay along her back and she was wearing black jeans and a large sweatshirt. Draco observed her intently as he realized he had never seen her not put together. He had seen her in her pajamas of course, but never disheveled.
Sophie cautiously walked over to the table and took a seat as she warily watched Draco. She wasn't used to him attending breakfast.
"Eggs and toast Ms. Verilia?" Kreacher asked as he began cooking on the stove.
"Sounds perfect." Sophie smiled at Kreacher.
A tapping noise came from the window above the kitchen sink that caused all three of them to look over.
"Ah. The morning post." Sirius cheerfully stood up from the table and walked over to the window. He pried the window open and took three letters from the owl perched on the windowsill.
He gave the owl a small pat on its head and it took off. He closed the window and began shuffling through the letters. "Ah. Sophie. You have one letter this morning. It's from Fred Weasley."
