Lunch was weird at first. The Avengers had multiple questions for Fury, which the agent ignored in favor of putting all of his attention on Harley, whom he had just met for the first time. Needless to say, Nicholas Fury instantly fell into the boy's trap and was now wrapped around his little finger.
Now, Harley was making the arrangements that the old man suggested in the schematics for his new potato gun, eyes not getting up from the papers he had spread out on the coffee table, a pencil in his ear and another in his hand.
"Damn, it really is a match made in heaven. He has Loki's concentration and seriousness mixed with your charisma and creativity. Plus the intelligence that you both have, are you sure he's not your biological son?"
Tony laughed and Loki punched the spy's shoulder causing the others to widen their eyes, waiting for Fury to retaliate. But that never happened. "Believe me. He's twelve and we've known each other for six or seven years. Maybe eight. I'm not really sure. Either way, 's not possible."
"You met in 2008. That was six years ago, sir," JARVIS helped him.
"What he said."
Loki shook his head at his husband's attitude but didn't comment. It would be a lie to say that he remembered the important dates. Having lived a thousand years, counting the days no longer mattered to him. "Can we perhaps leave our non-exciting domestic life alone and focus on the killer robot?"
Fury gave a short nod and spoke. "Ultron took you folks out of play to buy himself time. My contacts all say he's building something. The amount of Vibranium he made off with, I don't think it's just one thing."
Everyone flinched at the possibilities that all that vibranium could be destined for and Steve asked, "What about Ultron himself?"
"Ah. He's easy to track, he's everywhere. Guy's multiplying faster than a Catholic rabbit. He Still doesn't help us get an angle on any of his plans though."
"He still going after launch codes?" Tony questioned with a frown.
"Yes, he is, but he's not making any headway."
"I cracked the Pentagon's firewall in high school on a dare." Seeing Harley's head rising and his eyes sparkling at him, he added, "Which was very bad and the new generation shouldn't try if they don't want to go to jail."
Nick smirked. "Yeah, well, I contacted our friends at the NEXUS about that."
"NEXUS?" Steve looked confused.
"It's the world internet hub in Oslo, every byte of data flows through there, fastest access on earth," Bruce explained.
"Exactly, he's fixated on the missiles, but the codes are constantly being changed."
"By whom?"
Loki had to suppress a smile, "An ally." They all turned their gaze to him curiously and it was Natasha who asked how he knew. "You may be the avengers, but I have plans of my own. I just had to ask a friend for help."
Tony's eyes narrowed, "Is it okay to assume you're not talking about Wong?"
"That would be correct, yes."
"Huh, Mímir either. Jane is too well-behaved to break the law and Darcy doesn't know how to hack to save her life... who else?"
He rolled his eyes. "Oh dear. You are so slow."
Clint and Bruce snickered just as JARVIS's voice made another appearance. "I must admit, messing with the codes is the most fun task I have been given in a while."
Tony gaped while the others laughed. Natasha looked at Nick. "Well, this is good times, boss, but I was kind of hoping when I saw you, you'd have more than that."
