The next morning, I find myself on Topper's velvet, white couch. Pope is sprawled not too far from me. Papers surrounded the boy. It was clear he stayed up much later than me, trying to figure out the best way to get the gold up.
I hear shuffling coming from the kitchen down the hall. Since I'm already awake, I decide to follow the noise.
"Dad?"
"Top?"
I turn up in the kitchen, and quickly take notice of Topper. He's making a disgusting looking smoothie, which forces me to gag.
"Dude, what is in that shit?"
Topper laughs. "Spinach, tomatoes, strawberries-"
"Nope. Stop. I don't need to hear more." I interrupt him. My dramatic actions make the boy chuckle.
"So.. You and Heyward?"
I turn away from the boy, and start walking out the room. "End of conversation."
"Be careful." Topper shouts as I walk towards the living room.
"Shut up!" I yell back. My voice makes the Heyward boy jerk awake, forcing a smile to appear on my face.
I'm still quite mad at him. Whether telling Kiara was intentional or not, we should've mentioned the fact that he made a mistake. If he would've told be beforehand, I could see myself forgiving him easier. Although, currently the idea of forgiving the sweet boy was sounding more and more exciting.

Pope and I eventually arrive at the Chaeteu. We immediately get winks and other flirty looks from John B, making me cringe. Pope rolls his eyes as he walks towards John B, while I head towards Kie and Sarah.
I hold the ridiculous demonstration of what John B seemed to describe on paper. I hand the crinkled paper to Kiara, earning a weird stare. "Pope slept with it in his hand all night." I explain.
Kie and Sarah laugh at my slightly dramatic tone.
"He said it looked something like this." I say, pointing to the map.
"So.."
"That's about 50 feet down, and they're using a 100-feet rope. So I guess this little wagon will go.. straight to the gold room." I laugh, after slightly rolling my eyes.
The drawing was absolutely ridiculous. It made no sense, and was the written by the messiest handwriting I have ever seen-- other than JJ's.
"Who drew this?" Sarah chuckles.
"Who do you think?" Kie laughs.
We all turn our heads towards the two boys. Pope is already looking in our direction, making direct eye contact with Kie. I quickly look down, regretting even looking towards the Heyward boy.
"Kie, this better work." JJ says, quickly grasping my attention. "We can't pawn this if there's a giant wheat symbol on it."
Kie grabs a torch from below her feet, and holds it in the air. "It's gonna work."
--
Kiara lied. It didn't work.
JJ kept arguing that he could've done it better. Apparently, he took a welding class. Nobody believed him, but he was definitely sure of himself.
According to JJ, he knew of a perfect place to pawn off the gold. It's a small pawn shop on the edge of town. Really shitty place if I'm gonna be honest.
We all pile out of the twinkie. JJ and Kiara are still bickering about who would've melted the gold better-- I'm siding with Kie on this one.
"Can you guys shut up?" John B groans. It's clear the boy is getting irritated by the constant arguing-- he isn't the only one. "JJ, Leia, you guys are gonna do the talking."
"Why-" I start to ask. I soon get interrupted by Pope, who laughs at my ridiculous question.
"You're the best liars."
JJ and I shrug, slightly agreeing with the Heyward boy's comment.
--
"Good afternoon, ma'am." JJ states as we walk into the pawn shop. i trail behind him, as the pogues separate from each other throughout the store.
JJ and I walk up to the counter, earning an uprated eyebrow from the woman on the other side. "What can I do for you?" she asks.
I take the melted gold bars out of my pocket and place it on the wood counter. "Pawning off some gold. Y'all do that here, right?"
"I guess that's what the sign says." The woman replies. An eyebrow raises when her eyes lay on the melted gold bars. "That ain't real."
"Oh, it is. Very."
"I'm gonna have to do some tests."
"Be my guest."
