"Rory, come on, we can't invite ourselves for tea," Ashton called for about the fourth time. We could hear him and Sage laughing away, and couldn't bring ourselves to break it up, but Rider and Gia were getting hungry and I didn't have enough in the house to cook for Ash and Rory.

In fact I was already cooking, but slowly.

"Rory, we really need to go now. If you come down now then we can invite Sage over another day,"

"Fine!"

He ran downstairs and pressed himself into Ash, then they both said goodbye and left. I went to the kitchen and ramped up the hob, then got Sage to come down while the kids set the table.

"Is he okay?" Gia asked.

"He's fine now, yeah. You were really kind and patient, thank you,"

"My mouth feels funny,"

"It will for a couple of days, he said to me. You were so brave,"

"What happened?" Rider asked.

"The dentist put some special thing on her tooth that protects it and should stop you getting poorly teeth,"

"I want it. I want it, dad,"

"Then you can have it," I laughed, "I will ring,"

"I don't want another surgery ever again,"

"Well hopefully that will be the case,"

"Is tea ready?"

"Almost,"

"I'm so hungryyyyyyyyy,"

Sage screamed in the living room and ran through, hopping from one foot to another. Gia giggled, but Rider looked absolutely terrified.

"Spider! Spider!"

"Where?"

"Near the tv. It is massive,"

"How big?"

"Massive!"

I grabbed a box from the recycling and went into the living room. Then, I put the box over it (it was actually quite big) and slid another piece of cardboard over, getting Gia to open the front door to me.

Once it was gone, I went back to the kitchen and got the plates out.

"All gone,"

"Good,"

"I don't think it was anything poisonous,"

"You don't think?!"

I chuckled and passed Sage their plate, then the two eager kids and took my own to the table.

"So how was school?"

"Hard," Rider said.

"I'm sure you still did super well. Some days are harder than others!"

"I couldn't do any of the maths,"

"We can take a look at it after tea,"

"Okay,"

"Luke is gonna get you from school tomorrow, I am taking Sage to therapy and doing a food shop,"

"Ugh,"

"What?"

"I want you to pick us up," Gia whined.

"Thursday. Promise,"

"I want you,"

"You can have fun with Luke,"

She shook her head and I frowned, tilting my head.
