Calum

My whole body was sore.

My skin was sore. My eyes were sensitive to light. I was extremely stiff.

The crash had broken my nose which I was sure made me look incredible. I had a lot of cuts and bruises too.

But I was just happy I had made it out alive, and happy that my scans were all normal.

Most of all, the fact that my kids were safe was a miracle.

I was so overwhelmed.

I had some whack 'memories' , and vivid dreams, and was also aware that someone had to have changed me which was kind of unnerving.

But I had been in good hands, and now that I was awake, I could focus on myself.

This morning, Rider had brought his breakfast to me and we ate together, but then he went to watch a movie while I went back to sleep.

Then I woke up again and spent some time with a physio therapist who helped me gain a bit more control over my legs (they hadn't really been damaged but for some reason I was having a hard time with the coordination).

Not much progress happened, but it gave me a much more positive outlook.

I was awake!

"Lunch time!"

"Hey buddy," I laughed, sitting on the edge of my bed because I wasn't receiving any medicine right now, "What have you got?"

"A cheese sandwich, and strawberries, and carrot sticks, and crisps,"

"Well that sounds tasty. Do you wanna sit with me?"

"Yes,"

I took his tray and he climbed up, then sat cross legged and took it back. He was my little hospital buddy right now, and it definitely made my days easier.

"Dad, they want me to shower today but Sage isn't here to help, and I need help,"

"Why do you need help?"

"My arm,"

"Have you not showered since the crash?"

"No,"

"Mkay. Maybe I can help?"

"No,"

"Oh. Okay,"

"You have to rest,"

"Good point. You can have help from someone at the hospital,"

"Actually I will try on my own,"

I ruffled his hair and he offered me a carrot stick, so I ate it, receiving my own lunch menu shortly after.

"Dad, do you remember the crash?"

"No. That's the thing I don't remember,"

"Oh. It was scary. I wish I could forget,"

"Have you spoken to your therapist since?"

"Yeah, and she is going to help. Sage and Gia were very brave to get back into a car,"

"They were. I cannot drive for one month, and then they will assess me again and I should be good to go. I will be working from home, but Luke can do the school run for you, and Ashton can for Sage,"

"Okay. I don't really want to get into a car again, though,"

"We can ride together, and I will hold your hand, and we could even close our eyes,"
