Chapter 32

I averted my eyes at Zach who was looking at us intently. He shook his head and shrugged his shoulders.

"I didn't." Iyon lang ang sinabi niya.

Xyrene's brow shut before looking back at me."Hindi niya pa pala nasabi sayo. The weddding will be next month. Sana makalabas tayo one day bago ang kasal. Pero kung hindi, we'll send you an invitation. Sana makapunta kayo ni Idris," nakangiting sabi niya sa akin.

My lips are harshly pressing each other, still processing the thought that they are getting married.

Hindi ba masiyado pa silang bata para magpakasal? Let's say, yes, Zach is already twenty-six but Xy is just twenty-three. It's too early for them to get married, right?

Pero, bakit ba ako nangingialam? Buhay nila 'yan, they can do whatever they want. They look stable and ready naman, ako lang ang hindi handa.

I have been preparing myself for this day, but I don't think I would be ready anytime soon.

Can't they just get married after I die? Or can I die before they get married?

"I-I'm always busy so I'm not sure, but I'll try," I said with pain in my throat.

Zach was about to speak again when the door opened. Finally, the doctor came. Beads of sweat are on his forehead, panting.

"I'm sorry, I'm late. Did I keep you waiting?" baling nito sa akin. Definitely yes! And I hate you for that.

"It's fine, not at all," I answered instead, opposing my mind. Mukha naman siyang nagmadali at na-traffic talaga. I can't get mad, it'll be childish.

Ibinaba niya ang gamit sa table niya at tumingin sa lalaking nakaupo. "You have a visitor." He's pertaining to Xy. "Xyrene, right?" His eyes drifted to the woman beside me. "Nakaistorbo ba ako sa inyo?" Then to Zach again.

"Hindi po, dumaan lang ako para dalhan ng lunch si Zach." Umiling ang babae.

The doctor looked at Zach teasingly. He gave him a tap on the shoulder and whispered something. Zach stifled a smile before shaking his head.

"Since you're here, I'm leaving," aniya, pinipilit magseryoso pero halatang nangingiti dahil sa doktor. "I and Xy have something to talk about."

"Sure, thank you for keeping Leigh company here. Mukhang may lakad ka pa after ng shift mo," He said, "I and Leigh also need some privacy."

"Nakakatuwang makita ka ulit, Leigh. Sana magkita pa tayo kapag hindi ka na busy. I'll treat you to a meal," Xy said as a farewell.

I hope not, I hope not to see you again. "Sure, congratulations in advance." I replied halfheartedly before looking at her fiance.

Napako pa ang tingin ko kay Zach bago sila lumabas. Hindi man lang siya sa akin nagpaalam. He was in a hurry, gustong ma-solo ang fiancee niya? I don't even care!

I know he'll fall in love with Xy. I know there's something in between them. I saw them together after he passed his board exam. Good for them, they are a good match. It's just . . . I didn't expect my prayer will be answered this early.

"Angeleigh, did you understand what I said?"

Nagising ang diwa ko nang tapikin ako ni Markus sa balikat. I was lost in my thoughts again. "I'm sorry, what is it again?"

The doctor laughed and repeated what he just told me. He was discussing everything wholeheartedly, but my mind kept flying away from the table. Wala akong naintindihan pero since I know that there will be nothing different from my results last week, it isn't a big case.
