It was a cold January morning and Ruby was riding her bike to school already running late because she didn't notice the vibrations coming from their alarm clock. It was her first day which wouldn't leave the best impression on the teachers. In front of her, the school was already visible Ruby driving faster parking the bike on the bicycle stand. They took out the lock from his pants locking the bike so it wouldn't be stolen.
Ruby quickly ran off to the principal's office to get her schedule knocking on the blue door. A woman with a kind smile opened the door letting him walk in. They sat down Ruby on the chair in front of the headmistress.
"Hello Ruby, how are you and could you please tell me why you arrived ten minutes late" the woman took some papers out of the drawer putting them on her desk.
"I sincerely apologize I didn't feel the vibrations coming from my alarm and my father woke me up late" she explained getting a nod from the woman who looked as if she just remembered something.
"I heard you moved here from Nottingham it must have been hard leaving your friends," she said in a comforting voice.
"It wasn't as bad as you expect I will see them in summer again" Ruby gave the principal a simple answer getting a nod as the woman took out a paper from the pile in front of her.
"This is your schedule and the building plans are at every staircase if you can't find your classroom. Your first class is Maths should I help you to get there?" she asked getting a soft no from Ruby who walked out searching for the classroom which wasn't necessarily hard since it was on the same floor as the office.
Ruby knocked on the door hearing a faint 'come in' from a manly voice. They opened the door all eyes on her as she wanted to walk to the only free place but quickly got stopped by two hands pulling her back to the front.
"Not so fast don't you want to tell us something about yourself?" he questioned with an expecting face getting a small nod from Ruby as they turned to the class.
"Hello I'm Ruby, I'm deaf and I moved here from England" she introduced herself sitting down next to a boy in the back of the class. He had dirty blonde hair which was longer in the front nearly blocking the sight of his eye. His legs were only centimetres away from bumping into the desk giving away that he was rather tall.
"Hey I'm Ruby but I assume you already know that" they started the conversation seeing him turn his head in her direction.
"Uhm I'm Rudy but call me Ranboo everybody does" Ranboo gave her a small smile turning back to look at what the teacher was writing down on the board. The person turned around as well starting to write down the formulas.
What she didn't miss were the looks of disgust from some of the girls who were seated in the middle probably the popular girls. Ruby looked at them confused as they turned around rolling their eyes, she shrugged it off following the lesson.

It was now lunch break and they were sitting alone by themselves eating a sandwich as they felt someone sit down next to them. The girl had blonde straight hair and brown eyes with a welcoming smile on her face.
"Hey, I thought you looked pretty cool at saw you sitting by yourself all alone. My name is Eloise what is yours?" Eloise asked sticking out her hand for Ruby to shake.
"My name's Ruby I'm new here." he smiled at the person next to her.
"I love your accent are you from the UK?" she nodded biting into the toast in her hands.
"Ruby what are your pronouns because I don't want to misgender you" they chuckled taking out a box of cookies from the backpack on the floor.
"Don't worry I use all pronouns. What are yours if you don't mind me asking"
"I use she/her we could hang out someday if you want here's my number," the girl wrote down her number on Ruby's hand walking away. Was it that easy to find friends or did she just have luck?
The bell rang so he packed his things walking to her next lesson which was American sign language. She was one of the first people there so they sat down in the back taking out her notebook and pens starting to draw.
Next to her sat someone down heavily breathing making her look up to see the same boy from before. The teacher walked in looking around checking if everyone was there seeing a new face amongst them.
"Ruby Porter could you please raise your hand so I know where you are" Ruby raised his hand the teacher walking up to her.
"Okay, so Ruby here is one of the 0,22% of the world population who is deaf if you have any questions feel welcome to ask her" the class turned to her some of them raising their hands.
"Can you talk?" a boy asked fiddling with the pen in his hand.
"Yes, I can why shouldn't I?" She answered softly getting a small nod from him.
"How can you hear us when you are deaf?"
"I'm wearing a hearing aid because my left ear isn't completely deaf but deaf enough so I couldn't hear without it" Ruby explained seeing the girl saying a small 'oh'.
"Why are you here when you can speak sign language?"
"I only can speak British sign language since I was born in England," she told the boy next to her the confusion on his face disappearing.
"Okay, enough questions let's start with the lesson" the teacher clapped her hands everyone's eyes on her as she walked to the front of the class.
The lesson went by rather quickly and she was walking out of school to her bike as she felt someone tap her shoulder. Ruby turned around seeing the boy from before trying to form words sighing.
"Oh, I forgot to ask do you maybe want my number so we could be friends I don't know many people here" Ruby got a nod from him as he shut his mouth giving her his phone so she could type in her number.
Only seconds later she gave it back to him walking to her bike and driving home. He walked to the parking lot seeing his mothers car parked, her standing in front of it smoking. Ranboo sat down in the car waiting for his mother to start driving.
Shortly after the woman sat down starting the car and driving home. He just wanted to come home and call his friend.
