Illusions Of A Soul

The Dragon's Death

Dark flames rend the sky asunder,

Fiery rage bellowing from iron fanged jaws,

Eyes of blood glow with ancient wrath,

Malevolent gaze cast upon the place of man.

Hatred burns deep in a once noble breast,

The pain of centuries twisting the tender soul,

Unwelcome memories resurrecting that which was lost,

All kindness killed by never forgiven treachery.

Great talons tear at the very heart of man,

Destroying all that holds importance to the fragile enemy,

As once, his own world was ripped apart by human evil,

The ancient love submerged by the glory of destruction.

Hope and joy are concepts long forgotten,

Buried beneath an ever growing sense of anger and despair,

No gentleness left to temper it's actions,

Only a cold, burning need to strike at those who caused such pain.

Once man's greatest ally, saviour of many fragile dreams,

Now ally and enemy are one, tearing at the beast from within,

Betrayed and betraying, it cannot reconcile to the now,

So lashes out at the human source of it's despair.

Eaten by it's conflicted heart, what was and is, forces to great to bear,

The wounds of a hundred battles scar it's once proud form,

Pain and grief twisting body to match it's tortured soul,

Unnatural it's existence, tormented by what is meant to be.

Revenge cries it's heart, when hated flames within it's mind,

Death cries it's soul, when pain pierces that most hidden core,

Death to the humans; Death to the self,

Both are one in the agony of it's demented life.

Never ending it's attacks that serve a double purpose,

Suffering it brings to those whom did it wrong,

Destruction and pain it's repayment of human treachery,

Hatred blinding it ti it's true desire.

But they too give a gift, precious and welcome,

A thousand spears pierce it's willing hide,

Liquid fire ignites the ground about it's writhing form,

It's heart lit by an unseen smile; for the agony of it's being is no more.
