Chapter 8

I sat down in the cafeteria eating my granola bar when two girls walked towards. "Are they walking here?" I looked back at them and looked in front "what the fuck am I nervous about" I looked down at my phone as there shadows stood above me. "Hey can we sit here?" The short one spoke with a squeaky voice. I nodded at her and they took a seat in front of me "I'm El and this is Aria" she smiled as I looked up from my phone
"You're in the research group with us" I realized as I nodded at them "oh right the girl with the debating completion idea? Something about how we should conduct a mock trial?" I said and they nodded "yea are you down for it?" They asked
"Definitely" I smiled as they took out there phones to exchange numbers "Are you free tonight?" Aria asked and I thought of Ian. "How about tomorrow night?" I asked and they nodded in agreement "We need a plan to convince the uni for it"
"Anything with a good fight" I fist bumped them as we sat down getting to know each other better.

"Hey Ma how're you feeling now?" I asked as she blew her nose into the tissue
"I'm alright. When are you coming?" She asked with tears in her eyes
"Please don't cry Ma. I'll be there soon"
"How soon?"
"Maybe a week or two Ma breaks gonna be here soon" I said as she wiped her tear
"Come on cheer up"
"I'm never letting you go once you're done with this"
"But Ma what if I get into a good internship at a firm here"
"Try here"
"I will Ma but this is good for me. I'm going to head in for interviews day after" I explained
"Why couldn't you just stay near me"
"You and me both know it" I sighed as I got lost in my flashbacks
" you're safe that's all that matters" she said as I nodded with her
I heard a knock on the door as I cleaned the place around me and ended the call with Ma.
"Who is it?" I asked as no one answered. I looked through the peephole to see no one standing there.
"Do not open it" I said to myself locking the door and moving backwards when I heard another knock and someone run in the hallway "WHO IS IT" I screamed running towards the door and placing my hand on the doorknob "don't open it"
"Shutup" I said to myself before opening the door and taking a peep. There was a piece of paper on the door step. I turned it around "you're next"
"What the fuck" I hesitated before moving back into the door when something sharp like a horn rang in my ear. I screamed turning around to see Belle standing there "WHAT THE HELL MAN" I screamed at her as she laughed "you should've seen your face"
"You're next seriously?" I said as I opened the door for her walking in
"I got bored"
"So you gave me a heart attack" I said rolling my eyes at her
"Let's go out"
"I can't I have to study"
"What about after that?" She asked
"Um...I've plans?" I said looking away from her
"Is it a date?"
"No"
"Who is it?" I looked at her with a pale look and she understood
"Del don't do this"
"We are just friends"
"Do you listen to yourself when you talk about him. It's obvious you like him. You're going to crush yourself"
"I know" I sighed
"You're only going because you think there might be a tiny chance for you guys"
Is she right? That's the bitter truth
"I just can't say no"
"Wear something warm, it's windy"-Ian
I looked away from my phone to see a concerned Belle in front of me "I'll be good don't worry" I smiled at her
"Call me if you need backup" she said opening the door and leaving
I walked over into my closet and picked out warm sweats and a turtle neck on top. I picked out my shoes and got a necklace out. Why am I getting ready? It's just a hangout. "No brain it's not a date" I said as I ran into the kitchen to get water. "I'm too nervous to eat" I whined as I drank water. "You're going to mess me up aren't you" I looked at my belly and knew what was going to happen next. I ran to the washroom to unload my nervousness taking multiple trips before getting dressed. I let my hair down and carried an extra hair tie with me. There was a light knock at the door when I rushed to it. "No wait" I looked at my reflection in the mirror and straightened out my shirt. "Stupid" I ran to the door and took a breath in before opening it. I looked up from his white Nike, white sweats and a blue sweater to his perfectly dropped hair on his forehead. He stood there with his heaving body against the door frame. He gave me a little smile before putting his hand towards the door. "Like what you see?" He smirked and I looked away feeling my cheeks heat up. I watched him look at me up and down taking secret glances before letting me walk out and close the door behind me. We walked into the elevator together before he broke the silence "are you hungry?" He asked and I denied "you're never hungry" he said and I looked at him "that's not true" I argued
"Yes it is" "Not true at all" I said as we walked together towards his Mercedes. "Different car"
"Favourite one at the moment" he smiled at his black sterling with a beige interior inside. "Sexy" I said as he opened the door for me "what a gentleman" I laughed as I sat down. It smelled like fresh leather and a tropical breeze. "This baby flies" he said as he placed one of his hands on the wheel. "Impress me" I smiled and he smirked at me. "Get prepared to be blown away" he said I laughed at his little words.
Before we knew it in the chances of him impressing me with his Merc we stood outside a drive thru at McDonald's "what would you like?"
"Anything"
"Tell me"
"Um fries?"
"Any drinks"
"I don't know you choose just not coffee right now"
"Wanna share a milkshake ?" He smiled and I agreed with him
"Thank you"
"No thank you's" he smiled at me as we drove towards an empty plaza, parking around the corner we munched on our fries and he told me about his high school life "we used to come play snooker here almost everyday, life changed a lot after school. Everything's different" he explained and I nodded with him
"I feel you. I guess everyone matures after high school"
"We should come play here sometime" he smiled
"I don't know how to" I pouted
"No way"
"I can't hold the stick" I laughed and he giggled at my response
"I'll teach you"
"I suck just so you know"
" I did too now I'm a pro" he grinned opening up the car door
"Wanna play badminton?" He smiled and I looked at him
"Sure" I got out the car with him as he pulled out the badminton rackets from the trunk
"I haven't played in three years don't judge me"
"Three years? That's a lot"
"I know I stopped playing a while ago"
I took one of the rackets and stood far behind from him. He pulled out the birdie and aimed at me only for me to miss it "okay my bad" I said as I aimed it back at him for him to miss it. "My bad?" I laughed jumping around as the wind got colder "MOVE" he laughed as I stood there with his birdie going the other side
"NO YOU PLAY WITH THE WIND" I said aiming at him, he hit it back for it to go the other direction "MOVE DEL"
"I'll hit you don't ask me to move I'm moving ITS SO COLD" he laughed at me as he exchanged places with me
"HIT IT" he screamed as I tried hitting it
"I give up" I said and I missed it
"Whatttt move to the place it's going"
"ITS GOING ALL THE WAY THERE HOW DO I GO THERE" he walked towards me laughing
"Okay breathe calm down" he said as he controlled his laugh
"No you move" I said turning around
"Such a lazy ass you are"
"Me lazy? THE THINGY HATES ME" I said and he laughed at me
"Okay let's do something else" he said walking towards the drivers seat
I ran across the plaza and he stood there. "RACE ME" I said and he ran towards me. I opened my arms wide and ran all over the place with him following me. "FIRST ONE TO THE CAR WINS" I screamed as ran towards the car only to him crash into me "IAN"
I said as I held my head "out of breath" he said catching his breath
"NO MOVE IAN DON'T BE LAZY" I said as I mocked him
"I am sorry" he said pouting his lips
"Gym needed" I laughed and he nodded
"I'm going to you to the gym tomorrow"
"NO I AM GOOD" I whined running to the door
"COME ON"
"I'm too lazy please no"
"See that's why"
"HEY YOU RAN OUT OF BREATH" he laughed at me
"I'm just kidding"
"We can go though" I smiled at him and he nodded
"My gym buddy" he smiled and I locked my pinky with him
"Here finish these" he handed me the rest of the fries while we sat on the hood of the car
We ate our fries in silence while his phone kept ringing and he kept ignoring it "Pick it up Ian it might be important"
"It's not" He said looking away from it only for it to keep ringing
"It's her. They have started giving out the wedding invitations" he said and I felt my heart sink
"Ian I'm sorry"
"I try staying happy but it gets hard sometimes"
"She is one lucky women"
"What about me?"
"You're one amazing son" I smiled as his eyes softened
"Will you come?" He asked me and my heart was in my throat
"Ian"
"Please?"
"I will try" I said and he nodded
"I hope to see you there" he said and I felt my breath hitch, tears welling up. I blinked a couple of times taking a breath in and smiled at him "I gotta get fit to be your best man" I said making him laugh and he shaked his head
"Are you sure? No more fries if you hit the gym?"
"Not these precious sack" I cried out
"Maybe once in a while" he smiled
"Twice a week" I said
"Twice a month"
"NO PLEASE NO" he laughed at me getting me off the hood
"Come on let's drop you back we gotta get some abs tomorrow"
"Can't we just buy them?" I said and he put an arm around my neck messing my hair
"You're so funny" he laughed packing me up in his passenger seat
"Vroom vroom" I said as he turned his ignition on
"Were you a racer in your previous life?"
"I'm just a pro" he smiled
"Can't relate" he slowly turned towards me and said
"Del, tell me you can drive"
"Yes definitely" I gave him a nervous laugh
"Delilah"
"I CANT NO ONE TAUGHT ME DONT BLAME ME"
"Driving lessons are on me. I'm your professor tomorrow"
"I should drop out of uni and take up home school from you"
"I would be...
"A PRO I KNOW" I laughed as he sped his way out the plaza
We stood in front of my apartment building as his phone rang again "pick it up Ian"
"I'm happy Del let this moment be" he smiled
"I'll pick you up at 12pm tomorrow we are buying some abs" he smiled and I nodded
"Wear an extra gear incase we hit the wall" I said
"Don't worry you'll be on the roads with me"
He said as his phone rang again. "I'll see you soon Ian"
I said closing his door before he let his window down
"DEL"
"YES"
"MOVE" he laughed and raced his car before I could utter a word
