'Baby, we’re gonna be late'
Seokjin calls, fixing his tie in the mirror.

'Are you almost done?'

Jungkook pops his head out of their bathroom and raises an eyebrow.

'Are you?'

'Nope'
he laughs

'Hey, do you think I should wear a different tie?'

He slips his hand underneath the satiny strip of black material to hold it up for scrutiny and waits while Jungkook looks at him appraisingly.

'I think...no tie'
Jungkook decides, and disappears back into the steam of the bathroom.

'Yeah?'
Seokjin is already tugging at the knot to loosen it, slipping it over his head and tossing it on the pillow. Maybe he’ll use it later on, he thinks.

There’s clattering and a curse, then Jungkook appears again, gesturing with a hairbrush.

'Yeah, looks sexier without it'

'Undo the top button of your shirt too, please'

Jungkook looks different. Seokjin noticed it the second Jungkook declared himself dressed and ready back at home, but he can’t quite put his finger on what it is.

As a result, he’s spent a good portion of the night staring at Jungkook, more than usual.

They’re at a fancy event hosted by the hospital he works at, some kind of promotional celebration or whatever, Seokjin never pays attention; he just knows that as an established doctor, he has to show up and he always brings Jungkook, who is a sweetheart and never complains.

(Once Seokjin had playfully accused Jungkook of actually having fun at these events, when Seokjin himself was always caught up talking to people he barely knew about things he didn’t really have any interest in.

'There’s free food and free alcohol' Jungkook had shrugged

'I get to have fun while you handle all the boring business')

Right now Jungkook is standing by the bar, laughing with Taehyung about something that makes his eyes crinkle in that adorable way that Seokjin loves.

He’s dressed in a deep maroon shirt that looks like liquid silk draping over the planes and curves of his torso; tight pants cling to his thighs, iridescent stripes catching the light and emphasizing the length of his legs.

Seokjin sighs. Jungkook looks too good for an event like this. He’s only half listening to the small circle of old men standing with him, they’re talking about gambling and high stakes poker and Seokjin just wants to stare at Jungkook.

Which he finds himself doing more attentively, he’s so close to figuring out why things seem just a bit off, why every time he’d leaned in to give Jungkook a quick kiss it felt different, like something was missing.
