Back when I was a small kid, I didn't go out that much. I would be inside of the house, helping out my mother with the chores and the daily stuff.
Since my father would always be working until late at night.. I knew, at a young age, that I was the only one my father could count on to take care of my mother who was already really frail and sickly.
"Mom! I finished getting all of the clothes out on the line outside!" I said as I bring in a basket full of clean clothes.
"Oh dear Anon, you can just leave it there! Mom can get it later! It must be heavy!" My mom said as she's preparing to cook the rice for later.
"Don't worry Mom! I can do this!" I said this even though I know for a fact that it's quite heavy for little ol' me.
But I get it done anyways. I didn't want my mother to be lifting heavy things around the house.
"Oh geez Anon.... Thank you! You're so strong!" My mother said.
"Of course! I'll be the one to protect Mom after all!" I said. With a big smile on my face.
"Listen Anon..." My mother embraced me softly.
"I'm happy that you want to protect me but...." She said.
"Hmm?" I thought.
"Who will protect you?" She asked.
"I will!" I said feeling super sure of myself.
My mother then gave me a kiss on the forehead.
"I know you're capable of protecting yourself Anon. But when the time comes when you feel like you can't move forward anymore, someone else should be there to protect you." My mother said to me.
.
.
.
.
."It's alright Anon. I'm here for you. Go ahead and tell them what you want to say." Moca said as she keeps her arms wrapped around me.
I was feeling like I wanted to throw up. Like I was on the verge of collapse. I wanted to just run away and quit on everything. But I'm glad Moca is here to calm me down. Because of her, I think I can finally say what I want to say for a while now.
Thank you Moca.
"Father, Yes. The reason why I also asked you to come here is that I want to let you know that I want to study medicine. And I want to study overseas." I said.
They appear to be calm, but still somewhat shocked at my decision.
"What brought you to this conclusion Anon-kun?" Mr. Aoba asked.
"Ever since I was a child, I've been obsessed with taking care of my mother. Who, at the time, was already very frail and prone to sickness.
Even if it was a tough job, it brought me joy and a sense of accomplishment just seeing my mother still smiling the next day.
I realized that I really want to be able to help other people like how I helped my mother.
And in this case, medicine. I want to be a doctor. Take care of patients, make sure they can be cured of whatever it is that they are sick with, and make sure to let their family see them still smiling the next day...." I said.
They don't seem to believe me still.
"I know it sounds like a half baked idea... But this is what I really want! I've even asked about my school's First Aider's Club. They were happy to let me try out the clubs activities and explain to me what they do....
They told me that I had naturally careful hands! I was careful with handling injured people. One of the teachers even told me that I had potential to be a doctor....
All of these little things... They made me realize what I really want to do with my life...." I added.
At this point, tears started to fall down from my eyes.
"I want to be able to help people out, and also give Moca and I, a bright bright future...
So please.... Just this once.... I hope you can support me with this....." I said.
A moment of silence envelops the room.
.
.
."Have you picked out a school yet?" My father asked.
"Well... I haven't yet... I wanted to let you know about my decision first..." I said.
"Do you plan on leaving in the middle of the school year?" My father asked.
"Well I...." I stumbled.
"What about your job at Live House CiRCLE?" My father asked again.
"I can make it work! Also, how do you even know about that?" I said.
What's all this about...?
Father stood up and embraced me.
"I know I may have broken your trust on me.... So please, let me build it from the group up one more time! Plan everything you need to plan! And I'll be sure to make it happen!" He said.
Ahhh.... When was the last time I've felt this....?
I embraced him back.
"Thank you....father...." I said to him.
.
.
."Moca, are you okay with all this?" Mr. Aoba asked.
"Yes I am Dad. Anon has supported me so much without asking for anything in return for the past few months. I wouldn't mind being away from him for years." Moca said.
"Won't you have any worries or doubts? Anon has a pretty face! Other girls might steal him away from you~" Mrs. Aoba said.
"That won't happen!" I said.
From a folder I brought with me, I took out a piece of paper and gave it to Moca's parents.
They were surprised by what they were reading.
"Isn't this...!?" Mrs. Aoba said.
"No way..." Mr. Aoba exclaimed.
Moca then drops down and started crying.
"So this is what you were working on so early in the morning... Why didn't you tell me... I'm just.... Really.... Really.... Happy!" Moca said.
I hugged her and she hugged me back. She cried and cried. She cried out how much she's so happy right now.
"Fill out your information on that marriage form. When I come back, let's submit it together. Okay?" I told her.
"Yes!" Moca said.
