Melanie is dragging me out of town for a romantic date that's she's planned, and I know she's got something up her sleeves. I can't remember the last time she's gone this far for a date. With us both so busy running our businesses, it's hard to find time to go out. We usually just binge something on Netflix while cuddling with each other in bed with a glass of wine. Our date life has succumbed to a lonely woman's everyday ritual.

I'm usually the one to give no details on our date so that everything will be a surprise, and Melanie is following my lead by telling me absolutely nothing. I have no idea where we're going or what we're doing tonight. Now I suddenly understand why she hates surprises. The anticipation is eating me alive.

When we stop on a street corner, she takes out a blindfold and tells me to put it on. Now I really want to know where we're going. "Darling, is this necessary?"

"Yes, now put on the damn blindfold!" She snaps, and I don't hesitate as I tie it around my eyes. All I can see are tiny peeps of light since the material is thick. After a couple of minutes, Melanie puts the car in park and helps me out the vehicle.

"So, is this the part when you shoot me dead?" I joke.

"If I were to do that, it would have happened already," she snips back. I release a chuckle as she grabs my hand and leads me to wherever we're going. We head up some clunky metal steps, which tell me heading high up.

"Alright, okay, maybe you won't shoot me, but are you throwing me off a building?"

"Oh, don't start putting ideas in my head," she laughs. I hear a door creak open and close before Melanie reaches up to remove my blindfold. I blink before noticing us being at our spot on the abandoned rooftop. Melanie put a table with a small basket on top and two unlit candles.

"Wow, Mel, this is great," I gasp, sitting down. She takes our dinner out of the basket and lights the candles. The sun is starting to set, and in about a couple of minutes, the sky becomes a beautiful mix of fuchsia, apricot, and honey. Just like the time we went up here two years ago when Melanie comforted me after my father's funeral.

She's been my rock for so long now that I'd can't even imagine what I'd do without her. Seeing and talking to her is the best part of my day. I love her so much and I'd do absolutely anything for her. Melanie's deep brown eyes glow in the sunlight giving specks of caramel around her iris. She sips her wine glass living a stain of lipstick on the rim. Her red dress clings to her curves leaving me breathless at how beautiful she is. She's mine, all mine. And I'm hers.

"So, why'd you choose this place for our date?" I ask, digging into the lasagna she made. Since Melanie is trying to cook more, she's learning all types of new recipes, and her lasagna has honestly become my favorite dish to eat.

"Well, I heard they finally sold this place and wanted to spend one last time here together before they tear it down or something."

"So, we're illegally trespassing now," I crack a smile, shaking my head. We could've been before but now we're definitely are.

"You know I got to live dangerously baby," she does a fake hair flip since her hair is pulled up nicely in a bun.

"Okay, but how'd you get all this up here without drawing any attention?"

"Kelly, Nate, and Stephen helped. They set up everything while we were driving here."

"Well, I'm glad we got to share this beautiful view one last time." I grab her hand, pulling it up to my mouth kissing her knuckles.
