ellie's hands were shaking as the youtube premiere was starting to count down from three minutes. tommy and her were sat in front of her computer and were waiting for her song to start playing.
10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5.... the numbers replaced the song cover, which was her and jack looking out over nottingham on the roof of her apartment building. nobody could actually see it was them, which was exactly what ellie wanted.
she knew jack could tell, he had been there. that was not the main reason why she was so nervous. jack was on the other side of the country and he would hear ellie confess her love to him through a song.

4, 3, 2, 1, 0.... the timer hit zero and soft piano noises were coming out of jack's phone. he was in brighton for his birthday but he had much rather been in nottingham, sitting next to ellie to make the whole thing a lot less stressful.
but he wasn't, he was somewhere in a pub in the middle of brighton. a beer was stood on the table in front of him. his friends were scattered all over the place, some dancing to the loud music coming from the speakers, some at the bar ordering more drinks, and some were seated at different tables chatting with each other.
the words that ellie sang slowly started to sink in. if it was about jack, he could call himself the luckiest man in the world. but he was so scared it wasn't. what if there was a guy that ellie had never told him about?
maybe there was a guy that had done the same things jack had done with her. maybe he was selfish to even think it was a bout him. the song had come to an end and jack replayed it mutiple times, the words had a deeper meaning each time he heard them.
but i just want you to be sure, that i'm yours.

tommy looked at his friend, he cared so much for ellie and it was killing him seeing her like this. she looked so nervous and he wanted to do something for her, but he knew that the only person that could fix ellie was jack.
"elle?" ellie looked away from her screen and looked at tommy. she hummed signing for him to keep talking, but instead of talking he stood up and pulled ellie of off her chair and into his arms.
the hug he gave her calmed ellie's nerves. she wrapped her own arms around tommy's body and put her head against his chest. "you should call jack."
she knew she had to, "i will, don't worry."

ellie took a deep breath and pressed the call button. she was calling jack. when the call didn't get answered she groaned and waited so she could leave jack a voicemail.
"hey jack, i hope you're having a good time. and about my song, it's probably about the person you think it is. see you tomorrow i guess? bye." ellie hung up and dropped her phone on her desk.
she didn't touch it again that night.
