I thought the chap title would be funny cuz madrakes are like babies, and y'know how those types of parents are always like "tHiS iS mY pRiDe aNd jOy".

Hehe...

It's probably not that funny but oh well

···

lmao I got in an argument with my mom about this so now I want your opinions:

How do you guys pronounce either? Like EYE-ther or EE-ther?

(google says they are both correct but like... google is a bitch)

Harry cackled, "Harry, yes!"

···

"Greenhouse Three today, chaps!" Professor Sprout tells them as she rounds up the last of her students. She looked very disgruntled, not at all like her usual self, which Harry found quite odd. Her hat was tilted precariously on her head and her robes were ruffled and dirty.

Excited murmurs rippled through the crowd of Ravenclaws and Slytherins at the announcement.

They had only worked in Greenhouse one before, and it was well known that Greenhouse Three held the more dangerous and volatile plants. These plants were much more interesting than the singing lily pads they had been studying at Greenhouse One at the end of last year.

Making her way to the indicated Greenhouse, Professor Sprout pulled out a large key from her belt and unlocked the door.

Harry caught a whiff of damp earth and fertilizer mingling with the heavy perfume of giant, umbrella-sized flowers dangling from the ceiling.

He walked in, narrowly avoiding a pointed plant as it slung down in front of him. The orange and red plant wilted a little before rising once again and dropping over the head of another unsuspecting student.

Professor Sprout was standing behind a trestle bench in the centre of the greenhouse. About twenty pairs of different-coloured earmuffs were laid out on the bench.

As Harry took his place between Tracy and Hermione, she said, "We'll be repotting Mandrakes today. Now, can anyone tell me the properties of the Mandragora?"

To nobody's surprise, Hermione's hand was first into the air, followed by Harry's a few seconds later and surprisingly, Millicent Bulstrode's.

"Ms. Granger?" Professor Sprout called.

"The Mandrake, or Mandragora, is a powerful restorative." said Hermione matter-of-factly, sounding like she had swallowed a textbook. "It is also a vital component in restorative potions - commonly used to return people who have been transfigured or cursed back to their original state."

Harry caught Pansy's eyes as she looked at Hermione fondly. He quirked an eyebrow and she blushed red, turning away.

"Excellent; Ten points to Ravenclaw," said Professor Sprout. "The Mandrake forms an essential part of most antidotes. It is also, however, dangerous. Can anyone tell me why?"

"The cry of the Mandrake is fatal to anyone who hears it," Daphne said promptly, not even bothering to raise her hand.

Professor Sprout nodded at the confident words.

"Precisely. Take ten points for Slytherin," said Professor Sprout.

Daphne's face remained placid, but Harry could see she was pleased by the twinkle in her eye.
