Skylor's POV
It's funny how everything seems to be going right for you.
Until something happens that fucks it all up.
Everything went right for me, until I met Kai. And even then, things went even better for me, until I was cruelly dragged back into reality.
The problem is that I'm too caring, too trusting for my own good. I thought Kai was perfect for me, because you see, perfect matches are rare in an imperfect world.
This was just another imperfect match.
But somewhere between hello and goodbye, there was love between me and Kai. He loved me back. I know he loved me back, but his stupidity cost him me as a whole. Clearly money's worth more than love to him.
I pass him in the corridors, and we always make eye contact. But just like that, we were strangers again, but this time with memories. Memories that won't go away, memories that we will carry with us to our graves.
Sadly Kai won't make it to the end of my story, but I'll always remember what page he was on.
My thoughts go back to the start of semester, when I was having breakfast back at home. I guess that stupid fortune cookie was right for once: Not all stories have their happy ending.
Because mine certainly didn't.
