After the events with Long Feng at the palace, the group needed some rest. After all, they had been travelling and working nearly non-stop for months.
The past few days were just some days of rest, they ran some errands, and of course, looked for Appa around the city. The efforts to look for Appa were fruitless, but the GAang carried on in positivity anyway.
Nearly everyone in the house woke up early this morning, which was a nice change. (Y/n) stepped outside to the front porch to grab whatever mail had been dropped off to them.
She took a deep breath as she stepped onto the porch, taking in the cool morning air. It smelled faintly of rain, so she assumed it must've rained during the night. The birds chirped above her as the sun was rising. It was a beautiful day.
There were just some flyers for local shops in their mailbox, so (Y/n) put them on the living room table. She made a mental note to check out the shops later, as they looked interesting.
(Y/n) walked into the bathroom, and saw three of her friends getting ready for the day. Katara was putting her hair loops in, Sokka was shirtless as he shaved off his "moustache", and Aang was trying to shave his head.
"Need some help?" (Y/n) asked Aang, seeing him clearly struggle to shave the back of his head.
"Yes, please." Aang said happily, handing her the razor as she stood behind him.
(Y/n) had almost forgotten that Sokka was shirtless.
He smiled at her in the mirror as he tied his hair up in his wolftail. (Y/n) looked back down to Aang's head, not wanting to get distracted and accidentally cut him.
"Anyone have any plans for today?" (Y/n) asked the group.
Katara shrugged as she fixed parts of her hair. "I'm gonna see if Toph's up yet, but i'm not sure what i'll do today."
"I'll probably go see if there's any signs of Appa." Aang said softly as (Y/n) continued to shave his head.
"Do you want any help?" (Y/n) asked.
"No, i'll be okay." Aang smiled.
Sokka said he didn't have any plans either. It looked like everyone was out on their own today.
(Y/n) shaved the last of Aang's head. "There. What do you think?"
Aang titled his head around to see the parts the mirror that he couldn't reach. "Looks great. Thanks, (Y/n)."
(Y/n) squeezed the young boy in a hug before letting him run off. Katara followed Aang out of the bathroom to go and wake Toph. It left Sokka and (Y/n) in the bathroom alone.
"You sure love that kid, huh?" Sokka said, taking his shirt from the countertop and pulling it over his head.
"Sure do, all of them. They're great kids." (Y/n) says, taking a brush from the counter and running it through her hair.
She really did love these kids. She knew that they could protect themselves, they were all strong. But she wanted to show them that she loved them as much as she could, because sometimes, they just needed someone older to rely on.
Sure, Sokka was there, but he was more uplifting when someone was in a bad mood. He could cheer the kids up when they needed it, but (Y/n) was better for having a conversation with, and being a supporter. She also knew the kids liked her hugs better. Well, Katara and Aang liked them. Toph wasn't really a hugger, but on the rare occasion, when no one else was watching, she'd hug (Y/n). Sometimes the small earthbender needed a hug, too.
"They love you, too. Even though you coddle them sometimes." Sokka laughs as he leans on the counter.
"What? I do not coddle them." (Y/n) said defensively.
