They had settled in a rocky canyon, planning to stay for the next few days. It was the perfect area for Toph to teach Aang earthbending.

Over the course of the past few days, the younger kids had asked all kinds of questions about (Y/n) and her past. What the Yuyan Archers did, who her parents were, what living in the Fire Nation was really like, and so many more questions.

She answered them all to the best of her ability, and it seemed to smooth over whatever doubts or small grudges the kids might've held against her. At least, she hoped. They had wanted her to stay with them, but it took a few days for her to regain their trust.

Not Sokka, though. Because, according to him, he would've "made her leave if given the choice".

Good thing it wasn't his decision.

(Y/n) felt a little guilty, scolding Toph and Katara just a few days prior about the ridiculousness of their infighting, only to have her and Sokka start nearly back at square 1 with their relationship.

He was slowly becoming less cold towards her, seeing how the rest of the kids were warming up again.

Sokka's eyebrows were constantly knit together whenever (Y/n) looked at him. All she wanted to do was rub her thumb between his brows to ease the tension that was building up. The tension she had caused.

Sokka was a heavy sleeper. But now, he could barely sleep at night. His mind was too scattered, not giving him a moment of silence to fall asleep. How could he have trusted (Y/n) so whole-heartedly? She had lied to them for so long. And how did the rest of his friends seem to give her another chance so easily? He and (Y/n) had talked about giving her chances before, but this was big. He'd need more time to forgive her.

Still, whenever (Y/n) would be playing with Aang, or learning something from Katara, or training with Toph, she would look at Sokka with a look in her eyes that understood him. Understood why he was upset, and she knew that he'd need time. She looked just as hurt as he was, as though the secret pained her like it did him. That look made him want to go back to the way things used to be. When she'd fall asleep in the saddle, leaned on his shoulder, her forearm in his hands as he traced the scar from the palm of her hand to her elbow.

When Sokka had finally been given a moments rest from the constant noise in his head, who else but Aang could have interrupted his rest?

"Today's the day!" Aang flew into the air, landing down by Sokka. "Can you believe it? After all that time searching for a teacher, i'm finally starting earthbending. And this place, it's perfect! Don't you think?"

Aang didn't get a response.

"Sokka?"

Sokka growled in response.

(Y/n) turned over, tucking her face into her sleeping bag.

"Oh, you're still sleeping, huh?"

Another growl.

"I'm sleeping too, Aang." (Y/n) mumbled.

"Sorry." Aang whispered.

The ground rumbled, and Toph's earth tent exploded, revealing her with her hands on her hips. "Good morning, earthbending student."

Toph made her way over to them, and Katara got up from her slumber, and began chatting with the other two kids that were up for the day.

"They're never quiet, are they?" (Y/n) mumbled to Sokka, who poked his head out of the sleeping bag to look at her.

Sokka was about to respond, but he was cut off by a yelp from (Y/n), who quickly sat up to glare at Toph.

"We can hear you, y'know." Toph said.
