Alex and I have been living together for a month or so. I'm eating cereal in the kitchen when he walks out of his room, with his hair looking like a rumpled mess.

"Nice hair," I joke.

"Speak for yourself." He shoots back.

I smooth my hand over my hair once. Whatever.

He looks in the fridge and pulls out some orange juice. He stretches his back before pouring it.

"My back hurts so bad."

"Blow it out?" I ask.

He chuckled. "No"

"What's wrong then? Is it your bed?"

"I think so. I might need to go buy a new mattress, but I wanted to talk to you about it first."

I scrunch my nose. "Why? You can do whatever you want to your room."

"Well I didn't want to do that in case I wasn't staying here for very long."

I turn towards him. "Alex."

"Yeah?"

"You can stay here for as long as you want. I love having you here and I would never dream of wanting you to leave."

"Really?"

"Yeah. It's about time we made your room more, well, yours." I put my bowl in the sink and wash it out.

"That'd be great."

"We can go today if you want."

"Sure, I don't have anything planned."

We arrived at the mattress store. The floor has all sorts of mattresses on it.

Alex flops onto the first one and immediately sinks all the way in. "Maybe not this one," he laughs.

We search around the store, but he doesn't find any that he's in love with.

He laying on one and I flop down next to him.

"Could I take the painting on the wall in my room down?" He asks randomly.

I laugh. "Yeah.. Are roses not your thing or something?"

"I'm more of a sunflower guy myself, if we're being honest."

I smile.

"I'm so glad you moved in. I was so lonely and I didn't even realize it." I blurt out.

"Well I'm glad you asked me to move in. It's been a lot of fun."

"Glad to know we're on the same page then."

He mumbles something unintelligible.

"What?" I ask.

"Nothing." We're quiet for a few minutes before he speaks again. "Actually, y/n, can I ask you a question?"

"Yeah what's up?" I turn towards him on the bed.

"Do...um.. What... actually nevermind.." He repositions his beanie.

"What Alex? You can't just say that. Now I want to know what you wanted to ask."

"Nothing.. Just.. nothing important. It was stupid."

"There's no such thing as a stupid question." I retorted.

"That one was." He sits up on the bed. "I think I'm going to get this bed. What do you think?"

"I like it. It's firm but still soft." I immediately regret the words that just came out of my mouth.

"Just the way I like it." He gives me a little smirk.
