Crack!
Thunder roared outside, jolting Rebel out of her sleep

Rebel's POV
I sat up on the top bunk and swung my legs over the edge. Careful not to wake Laura, I slid down to the floor and padded over to our window. I grabbed a chair, sat down, and watched the Rain. Weather seemed to be one of the only things that soothed my whirling thoughts at the moment. I ran my finger along the windowsill. "Are you ok, Rebel?" Laura's voice startled me. "Fine, can't sleep." I answer, staring blankly at the pounding Rain. Laura pulled up a chair. "If there is anything wrong you can always tell me." She smiled, her hazel eyes still glazed with sleep. "Thanks" I murmur. "I'm glad to have a friend like you, Laura.." I say, my voice barely a whisper.

Knock, knock

I jog to the door and open it to principle Monstercat, handing me a letter. "This came in the mail for you, miss Rebel." He smiles. "Thank you." I say politely. "Get some sleep, you have only one tardy pass left." He says, pointing a finger at me. "Yes sir." He kind of scares me sometimes. I open the letter:

'Madison,
I don't want you in that school anymore. You need to get your ass home and get yourself a REAL education. I'll be there in a few days. Pack your stuff'

"He can't just do that to me!" Rebel sobbed into Laura's shoulder. "Rebel.. I-I'm sorry.." Her voice shook. I guessed she was on the verge of tears too. "He doesn't OWN me anymore!!" I snap to no one in particular. "HE left US!" I yell. "Rebel," I realized I had begun to pace our room. I stop and look at Laura. "You're not going to leave." Her stern voice surprised me. She was usually quiet and sweet. "I won't let you." She growled.
