Chapter 7- Love

(Laura's POV)

"Have any of you seen Rebel?" I ask Josh, Braken, Danyka, Tut Tut Child, and Tristam. "No. I haven't seen her around school. Do you think something happened?" Danyka asks. "I hope not." I say as I start on my lunch. What if Muzzy and Ephixa are back to their old ways? "Wait," Braken says, pointing to the door. "There she is." Rebel stopped at the entrance to the dining hall, doubled back, and waved for someone to come forward. When she reappeared, she was with a small girl. "Is that the new student?" Tut Tut Child asks. "I think so. Should we go introduce ourselves?" Braken asks. "Quit being so timid. We'll just call them over." Josh says, yelling Rebel's name and waving them over. Rebel jogs over happily, but the girl pads over more shyly. "Hey guys!" She turns around and waves for Hope to speed up. "This is Hope." We all say hello and Hope gives a small wave. "Hope, this is Laura, Tut Tut Child, Josh, Danyka, Braken, and Tristam." She says, pointing at each of us in turn. "We'll be right back." She says, already walking to the lunch line. "She's just like you so far, Braken!" I exclaim. He blushes, going back to his book and shifting uncomfortably. "Oh my god..." Danyka and I say together. "YOU LIKE HER!" The whole table exclaims in unison. "N-no!" He snaps, blushing like crazy. "This is brilliant!" Tut Tut Child exclaims. "Aww! My buddy's got a crush!" Tristam teases. "Hey, don't forget how Alex and I practically had to slam you and Rebel together at that dance!" He snaps, blushing like crazy. "Yeah, and I thank you for that. You see how well that turned out?" Tristam smirks. "Yeah, they're like, one of the most shipped couples in the school." I half laugh. "... Next to Tut Tut Child and Danyka." Josh adds. The two, sitting side by side, stopped dead. The whole table laughed except for Danyka and Tut Tut Child, who were blushing more than Braken. "You're one to talk, Josh." Tut Tut Child murmurs. Josh looks up from his chicken sandwich, his mouth still full. "Huh?" He mumbles around his food. He looked adorable. "You and Laura!" Danyka exclaims. "What?!" We both say. Instantly our cheeks turn bright red. I exchange a look with Josh, asking him if we could tell them. He gives a slight nod. "Fine. Laura and I are dating." He says as Rebel sits down. "Ooo the confession!" She laughs. Hope sits down across from her. "So.. who all is dating who?" She asks timidly. "Laura is with Josh, I'm with Rebel, and Child and Danyka wish they were together." Tristam answers. Danyka face-palms and Tut Tut Child blushes, almost taking no notice to Tristam's comment. "Did we miss any announcements?" Rebel asks. "Nothing major. Monstercat just announced Hope's arrival." I reply, finishing up my lunch. I walk up to the window where we put up our trays and wait for Danyka.

[Braken's POV]
All through free period I thought about Hope. About how her green eyes sparkled with every word she spoke... and how sh- Damnit! I'm doing it again! I look around and try to find Tristam. I need serious help. I see Tristam across the gym talking to Razihel. I stand up and jog over. "Tristam!" I call. I wave him over once I catch his eye. He excuses himself from his conversation and runs over. "What's up?" I grab him by the shoulders. "Dude. I need help." I snap. Tristam lowers my arms. "Ok ok. Just, calm down." "I can't calm down, man!!" I start to feel panic welling up inside of me. "Come on, we'll talk in our dorm." He says, leading the way.

Tristam shuts the door. "What's your deal? You had like, a mini panic attack in the gym." He exclaims. I pace the room. "Y-you've been in love before, right?" "I have and I still am." "W-W-What does it feel like?" "What do you mean...?" I was beginning to lose patients. "What's it feel like? Do-do you g-get nervous or nauseous? Do you feel happy or frustrated or..." My breath was beginning to quicken. "Ok, calm down Braken." He grabs my hand and sits me down on my bed. "When I first thought I was in love with Rebel, I would get butterflies every time I saw her or thought about her. When ever she'd approach me, it would be hard to breathe or my heart would speed up and I would blush." He recalled. "Oh. My. God... I-I'm in love." I murmur. "That's great!!" Tristam exclaims, clearly happy for me. "What do I do, though?" "What?" He half laughs. "I've never been in love before. I don't know what to do." I admit, brushing the hair out of my eyes. "I'd ask Rebel or Laura. They give pretty good advice." He says, clapping me on the back. "You'll get through it. After all the shyness and stuff, it's actually a pleasant feeling." He reassures me. "I think I'm going to stay here for the rest of the day." Tristam gives me an understanding look. "Aw. You've got it bad. If anyone asks, I'll tell them you're sick." "Thanks." I say as I lay down, still dazed from my freakout. The fifth period bell rings and Tristam pats my leg. "Feel better, buddy." "Thanks." I murmur, my voice barely even a whisper. He looks back one last time, then shuts the door. I kick my shoes off, throw my shirt on top of them, and cover up with a blanket. "This is gonna be one hell of a week."

"Braken, wake up." I hear someone rasp. I open my eyes to Noisestorm standing over me. "You alright?" He asks as he sits on his bed. I sit up, messing with my hair. "Not really." "What's the matter?" "I'm in love.." I groan as I flop back down. He chuckles. "Isn't that good?" "I don't knoooowwwww." I moan, covering my head with a pillow. "Man, you've got it bad." "I've heard." I growl through my pillow. "I just don't know how to feel about it. It's... good but... gah I don't know!!" "Try going back to your nap. School ends in... an hour in a half." I grunt, turning over and shutting my eyes. I waited for about five minutes, but sleep didn't come. "Did you ever find out if you were sick or not?" I ask Noisestorm. "It's only allergies. The nurse gave me some Clariten or something, so I should be clearing up soon." "Good. I'm tired of having a snorting pig waking me up at night." I joke. "Hey, I snore no matter what." "Well, you still sound like a pig." I say, turning back over. He snorts and we both laugh. I shut my eyes and, finally, I fall asleep.
