"Hey, are you OK?" Who in the world is talking to me right now? I don't wanna get up! It's too early for this... Wait a minute. I quickly sit up and move away. I was being burned to a crisp. So how am I sitting safe and sound- Scratch that. I'm definitely not safe. The room smells antiseptic and all around me is medical equipment I always see in a surgery room in a TV show, not to mention the guy who was talking to me is looking at me weirdly. Makes me wonder what things happened while I was unconscious... Although, there is a possibility that I'm just at a hospital.

Or there would be a chance if the man who just spoke didn't look at me so creepily. He watches me like a snake watches his prey.

"Who are you?" I get up off of the uncomfy bed and back away, grabbing a scalpel. I feel fine, if not a bit tired. Unusual, since I was just in an inferno again, but I'll have time to think about that later. First, I need to find out where I am and get Sabrina out of here.

He puts his hands up. "Relax. I mean no harm to either you or your friend. My name is Alexander De Cristofalo, and I run the U.S. Division of the New Life Organization. We brought you here so we could help each other."

"Why would I help you after what I just saw you do?" I ask. These guys must be stupid if they think I'll ever help them. And besides, I was doing perfectly fine on my own without any of their interference.

"Because I think you'll like what we have to offer. And if you don't..." He walked towards me with a smirk before leaning forward and whispering, "Well, let's just say I'm sure some people would be glad to know the name and location of the daughter of William Doyle."

My grip tightens on the scalpel at the mention of that man's name. How did he find out? I thought that the information linking me to him was destroyed. If people find out, I, and everybody associated with me, would be in huge danger. Not only that, but they also have Sabrina in custody. I wonder what's happening to her right now. Did she get hurt in the fire? Or did the same thing that happened to me happen to her? I'll have to find out about her later. For now, I have to go along with them, though why go through the effort just for me? It's not like just because of who William was, I'm the same. I can't really do anything useful, and Mr De Cristofalo must have a lot of money thanks to his job. Subconsciously, I take a step back. "How could I help you? Aren't you in charge of some huge company?" I hope my voice doesn't betray my fear.

"Firstly, the NLO is not a company, it's a charity, aimed to bring peace to everyone." He takes a breath before continuing with an off-putting smile, "And secondly, in order to do that, we need you, Miss Victoria Reed. We have reason to believe you are the current holder of the key to great power."

"Me? A great power?" I snort at the very idea, but I think I know why he thought that. Simply, he's insane! There is no way I have some oh-so-great power that could help them. If I did, wouldn't I know? I mean, there was that weird thing that happened at school... But there's no way they could know about that, right? As if he could hear my thoughts, he sends me a knowing look.

"Yes, indeed." He stepped away before walking to and opening a door on the left and motioning for me to follow. As we were walking, Mr De Cristofalo continued, "We recently got a huge reading of layered radiation from Meril, much larger than anything we've seen in the last 4 years."

"What's layered radiation?" I've never heard of that before. Is it dangerous? By this time, we arrive at a small lab that stinks like bleach and almost shines with how clean it is.

"Well, according to our research, it is a force that is set out and measured by the specialised machines we have here, and quite rare. Further research is being done, but we can tell you that it can be quite strong, has been theorised for centuries, and is only measured here." He explained in a patronising voice, and I know he thinks he knows better than me.
