27 - Criminal Undercover

I eventually after days arrived home, the stuff from the hospital packed in a bag. A week had passed from the moment I was shot by Jimin till now.

Only a week yet it felt like a whole year.

The amount of new information I had learnt, the changes I needed to get used to.

A week ago I was a police officer who finally succeeded in locating the criminals I had been obsessing about, while now I was an accomplice to that same gang.

A week ago I thought the boy I adored in the academy and with whom I had been falling in love with was a cute computer nerd yet now he suddenly was not only part of a notorious bank robbery gang, he was the leader.

A week ago the guy I slept with was my cold partner who was supposedly engaged to a girl in Japan, but now he was a very single member of the robbery gang he had been acting to chase for the past years.

I was exhausted and decided to just lie in bed. as the following day would be my first day at work again. Gina pressured me to take more days off but I didn't want that. And so after my long sleep the day started in which I would return to work.

I also knew what I had to do now. I discussed it with Jungkook as well, I couldn't be part of this robbery gang anymore. It would only make me feel more terrible to lie to Gina and the team day in and day out.

It was the first thing I did when I arrived at work in the morning. I went straight to Gina's office and sat down. She stared at me in anticipation but I suppose she already knew what I came here to say.

     'I'd like to be transferred to another team.'

Gina nodded in understanding

     'I understand, I already made some arrangements. I am truly sad to see you leave this team, but your safety is what matters most at this moment. You will start in the team responsible for murder investigations'

A feeling of gratitude filled me, she already thought of a plan b in case I indeed would quit due to the made up threats of the robbery gang.

    'Thank you.' I replied with that gratitude I was feeling. She stood up

   'I will walk with you and introduce you to your new team leader.'

The entire day passed so fast because I get to know all these new people and new information. I would first have to read through a lot of documents to catch up on everything, so no real field work yet.

Normally that would be disappointing but this time I was pretty happy about it. Considering my wound was still healing as well. 

When I arrived home, I suddenly felt horrible.

The anti-robbery squad wasn't my choice when I initially joined the academy but Jin's death decided it for me and ever since I was completely into that. It was basically my life, and that had ended now. I walked into my bedroom to change into my pajamas.

My eyes fell again on the wall, the wall full of my investigations. I chuckled but in a very depressing way. It was all so screwed up.

There wasn't a lot that I could do to express my feelings at this point and after changing my clothes I had the brilliant idea to open a bottle of wine. It made me feel better at the beginning. and the way I kept drinking it almost had a narcotic effect, I didn't feel or think. I blasted loud music through my apartment while drinking and dancing. 

The room was spinning and I frequently collided with a piece of furniture. Not all too strange after consuming more than one bottle of wine by myself. I just didn't want it to stop, I didn't want to think about my actual reality.

Finally I had this strong urge to sleep so I stumbled towards my bedroom. In which I had to face my wall of articles, and Jin's picture, which was in one of them.

I fell back on the bed, tears uncontrollably flowing down my cheeks.

     'I am sorry Jin. I am sorry I am such a horrible friend' I whispered and then closed my eyes to fall asleep. 

Jungkook pov

Y/n had not been at work all day. She hadn't even called in sick, (I knew as I might have hacked the system and looked into her sick leave requests), the head of the murder investigation squad had stopped by our area to talk to Gina.

I guess they gave her the benefit of the doubt due to

everything that had happened. I had texted her and at some point even called her but there was no response whatsoever.

She occupied my mind the entire day. Until it was time for us to go home again. I was considering stopping by y/ns.

Perhaps I should let her be for a while, I mean I'd only make it worse.

but what if she actually needs someone to talk to?

what if she is feeling bad?

Or something happened with the wound or her shoulder? 

The questions, and the worries piled up inside my head until I, at some point, hacked some system to get y/ns address and I ended up at her doorstep.

Was I really doing this?

Yes I was, because I was ringing the doorbell the second after.

y/n opened the door and her eyes widened as she saw me. So did mine honestly because she was wearing her pajamas which consisted of satin shorts and a satin shirt as top. The look in her eyes was dazed and her movements unstable.

She was drunk 

She waved with her arms

     'Koookieeeee, Why are you hereeeee?' she asked

     'I uh... I wanted to see whether you were okay, you weren't at work'

She smiled, but like a little child,

     'AWH you worried?? you know you are just like the professor in that Spanish series!! and I am like that detective, I am also stupid and deceived by the guy she really likes.'

I awkwardly looked away, considering she kind of confessed to me via a Netflix reference. I of course had seen the series.

She didn't seem to notice that I was embarrassed though and happily went on.

    'You look so handsome' she brabbled 

Then she pouted

    'Why are you breaking into my heart like that?'

I looked down, still feeling pretty embarrassed about the entire thing.

After a long pause she laughed out loud and I looked at her confused

     'I said "Breaking into my heart", you get it?! you are a robber, an undercover criminal in our team and you are breaking into things.'

I didn't laugh with her. It was really painful to see her this way. Like a person you love standing on the edge.

She pouted again 'you don't think I'm funny? I know Jin would surely laugh at that horrible joke'

I was still on her doorstep but soon she waved inside.

'You want to come in?'
