BTP KABANATA 11

"Vera..."

I turned my head when a familiar voice called me. He wasn't smiling, but his eyes were happy. I gave him a warm smile and waved my hand.

"Hi! You wanna study with us?" tanong ko. Napatingin ako kay Kev nang tumikhim siya. "Aalis ka na?" tanong ko kay Kev.

Tumango siya at tumikhim. He looked at Satan then turned his gaze to me. "Ayokong maging third wheel," inis niya sa akin.

Umupo si Satan sa tabi ko nang makaalis na si Kev. Tinuloy ko ang pag-aayos ng gamit ko at nang matapos ako ay tumingin ako kay Satan.

"What brought you here? Aren't you busy?"

"I..." bumuka ang bibig niya pero hindi niya tinuloy ang sasabihin niya. Tumikhim siya. "I just wanna ask if... if you want to eat? My treat," he added.

My jaw dropped.

What the fuck? Is he really asking me on a date?

Again?

"Uh..." I tried to compose myself. "Sure, saan ba?" sabi ko nang makabawi ako.

I smiled and put my bag behind me. He cleared his throat and stood up. Sinundan ko siya hanggang sa makarating kami sa harapan ng sasakyan niya.

I poked his back to get his attention. "Where are we going?" I innocently said.

"Mcdo?"

My face lightened up because of what he said. I've been dying to go to Mcdo, but I'm always busy. I'm either at the coffee shop or in school. I realized I only went home to sleep for a couple of hours then review outside again.

"Ready?! Wait, uh, I'm still in uniform. Should I change? Let's go muna sa condo," I babbled excitedly.

I heard him chuckle, making me stop from thinking about what to do.

"You don't have to worry too much. Whatever you're wearing right now is fine," he examined me and smiled.

Pinagbuksan niya ako ng pinto kaya lalong lumawak ang ngiti ako. I happily put on my seatbelts and tapped my thighs that are closed together.

"You know what, it's my first time going to a fast-food chain," I said.

Tumingin siya sa akin nang may kunot na noo kaya ibinalik ko sa harapan ang tingin ko. I don't want to see the pity in his eyes. It's already enough that he saw me in my vulnerable stage.

"Don't pity me," I whispered.

"I'm not," he answered. "I'm happy this is your first time... I get to witness your first," he added, making my head turn.

He didn't look at me. He was looking in front with a tiny smile on his lips. His eyes were glowing... maybe because of the city lights.

I felt my hands move to my chest, feeling my heartbeat. It was beating rapidly, and I felt like it would get out anytime soon.

"I have many things that I haven't experienced..." I finally got his attention. "You can all witness those firsts," I gave him a genuine smile.

"I'm honored then," he paused. "Let's do all the things you've wanted to do, Vera. I'll be with you while you're trying to see the real world," he said, making my heart melt once again.

I nodded at him and looked in front again. "Yeah. I want that too, Satan."

We were both quiet the whole ride, but the love songs from the radio made the silence not awkward at all.
