BTP KABANATA 28

"You know a lawyer, right?" I asked Chanel when she gave me the cupcake I wanted. Today is the day when I will meet Satan. Sinadaya ko na agahan para makausap ko pa si Chanel.

"Yes. Why? May idedemanda ka?" tanong niya at umupo sa harapan ko. 

Umiling ako. "I can't disclose the case of my patient, but I need a lawyer," sagot ko.

"Fine," she sighed. "I'll send you Serge's number." Kinuha niya ang cellphone niya mula sa bulsa niya. She immediately sent Serge's number to me.

"Is he really your cousin?" I asked. I couldn't believe they were cousins when Chanel told me that he's blood-related to Serge.

"Unfortunately, yes. He's a great lawyer, so he could help," she said, smiling. "'Yan ba ang dahilan kung bakit ka pumunta rito?" tanong niya habang kinakain ang cake na dapat ay para sa akin.

"I'll be meeting someone," I said, hesitating if I should tell her the truth. Pero malalaman din naman niya kapag dumating ang hinihintay ko. "Satan's going to come in a few minutes..."

She choked on her cake. I quickly handed the juice I ordered. Tinungga niya ang laman ng baso... Napanguso ako dahil doon. Parang siya ang umorder, ah.

"Kayo na ulit?! Bakit parang ang bilis naman?" she asked aggressively. She shook his head in disappointment. "You will never beat the marupok allegations."

I rolled my eyes. "I'm here to treat him for helping me out yesterday. If it wasn't for him, my patient is probably mourning now," I said, calmly defending myself.

I crossed my arms on my chest and leaned backward. "Speaking of marupok, Zari told me she saw Vio," I said, turning the tables. 

She was taken aback, but she didn't let it be obvious. Joke's on her because she still looks affected after all these years.

"I don't care..." she said, obviously wanted to know why did Zari saw Vio. Iniwas niya ang mata niya at bumuntong-hininga. "He's happy with my half sister now... Ayokong makasira ng relasyon," seryosong sabi niya habang nakatingin sa bintana.

I ate the last piece of the cake before crossing my legs. "Are you sure that your half-sister and Vio are together?" 

Ang sketchy naman kasi ng kwento niya rati...

"My sister liked him since God knows when. It's not impossible for him to not fall for her, knowing how kind Vio is. Please, he would do anything you ask him, I bet," she scoffed. "This is why I fucking hate that guy. Masyadong mabait..."

Natawa ako. "You're into good guys kasi!" I teased her. "But, seriously, ang bait nga ng lalaking 'yun, 'no?"

Tumango siya. "Yeah..."

"But you know what, when I first saw you too, ramdam ko 'yung titig niya, e. Kaya rin siguro akala ko noon kayo na kasi grabe talaga 'yung titig niya. Swear!" I said, raising one of my hand.

"Imagination mo lang 'yan," she said.

I shrugged. "Malay mo hindi."

"You know what, just focus on Nate. Ayan na siya, oh," she said, pointing to my back.

Kaagad akong tumalikod para makita si Satan. He was wearing a light blue polo, and his white coat was hanging on his left arm. His eyes were roaming around, and when he saw me, he quickly smiled.

Kumaway ako sa kanya at ngumiti ng may alinlangan.

"Alis na ako," sabi ni Chanel bago tumayo at dumiretso sa kusina.
