BTP KABANATA 20

"Hiyang-hiya naman kaming single rito," pagpaparinig ni Kev nang makauwi kami ni Satan.

Kumpleto na silang lahat sa loob ng bahay at kami na lang ni Satan ang kulang. Hindi namin namalayan na pagabi na pala. We were enjoying roaming around. We haven't seen all the tourist places since I told him I want the others to come. Wala naman siyang nagawa kaya pumayag na lang siya.

"Isa lang naman solusyon para hindi maging single," umpisa ko. "Edi, maghanap ng jowa!"

Sabay na bumuntong-hininga at umirap si Mina at Kev. Tumawa ako at iniwan si Satan para lumapit kina Kev.

They were both sitting while Kuya Leo and Cloud were fixing something.

"Kumusta naman alone time niyo?" tanong ni Mina. She sipped on her tea and crossed her legs. "Hindi ko na talaga 'to uulitin. Imbis na mag-enjoy, lalo pa ata akong na-stress."

"Ay, hindi ka pa nag-enjoy sa lagay na 'yan?" Kev clutched his chest. "'Yung ngiti mo kanina parang nanalo ka sa lotto," dagdag niya.

Hindi siya pinansin ni Mina. She rushed beside me and looked at me suspiciously.

"Sinagot mo na?"

I shook my head.

"On my birthday."

Ngumiwi siya. Maging si Kev ay napabuntong-hininga na lamang. May mali ba sa sinabi ko? I want to make my birthday special by saying yes to Satan.

"Vera, when did you become this naive?" Kev said in disappointment.

"Agree," Mina said. "Love does change people." She shook his head and leaned on the sofa.

"What did I do wrong?" I asked. Hindi ko talaga sila maintindihan. Ano ang mali sa sinabi ko? I just want to celebrate our anniversary on my birthday if ever. I have a tita who has the same birthday as her husband, and their anniversary is also the same. I find it cute...

"Kapag nag-break kayo hindi mo na mace-celebrate birthday mo," Mina plainly said. "Imagine waking up that day, and you'll remember your ex. God, I could never!"

"Exactly," Kev agreed. "Don't associate your partner in everything you do. Paano na lang kung mag-break kayo? Ang hirap nun, girl. I don't recommend it," Kev said while eating his chip. His legs are also crossed like Mina's.

"Hindi pa man kami break na agad ang iniisip niyo," suway ko. "Hindi ba dapat ang present muna ang iniisip ko?"

"May point ka naman, but still." Mina fixed her posture and looked at me. "I mean, let's be realistic. There is a huge possibility that both of you wouldn't end up together."

"For goodness' sake, we are not yet official!" I said in annoyance. Why are people around me so busy thinking about the future? Why not make memories in the present?

"Makinig ka kasi!" si Kev. "Pakinggan natin si Mina. Mukhang love expert pa naman 'yan."

Mina flipped her hair then winked. She tucked her hair behind her ears.

"You know, Vera, we never know what will happen in the future. And before you say anything, listen first. Each and every one of us," she roamed her fingers around. "Every person we encounter has their own lives, and we all affect them with our actions. Come to think of it. If you associate your life with the person that will not stay in your life, then they'll remind you of the things you associate with them."

"So, ang ibig mo bang sabihin kung sasagutin ni Vera si Satan sa birthday niya, at kung sakali mang magbebreak din sila, maiisip at maiisip ni Vera si Satan. Tama ba ang intindi ko?" Kev asked.
