BTP KABANATA 12

"Thank you for coming with me," ngiting sabi ko kay Satan nang pagbuksan niya ako ng pintuan.

"No worries," he smiled.

It's already Saturday today, so we woke up early to drive here. Sa Manila dapat mag-cecelebrate si Mommy, but she wanted to see our relatives. They wouldn't miss their youngest sister's birthday.

"Nandito ka na pala, hija," Manang Shane said when she saw me entering our ancestral house. I hugged her tight and kissed her cheeks. "Nandito ka rin pala, Nate. Pasok kayo. Nasa garden silang lahat."

"Your whole family is here?" he whispered. I merely hear him.

"Yeah..." He grew pale. "Hey, okay ka lang?" I asked worriedly.

He coughed. Pinunasan niya ang noo niya. "I'm just a bit nervous."

Napanganga ako dahil doon. He's nervous? Because of what? It's not right to assume but... is he nervous because my whole family is here?

"Why are you nervous?"

"Nothing..."

"You don't have to be nervous," I assured him. "My family are the best." I smiled.

We went straight to our garden. My relatives were all busy chatting with each other when they saw us coming.

"Anak, you're here!" My mom rushed to me and hugged me.

"Happy birthday, Mommy," I said, kissing her cheeks.

"I thought you would ditch my birthday," she pouted. "How's nursing?"

"It's fun..." I smiled awkwardly.

You don't know how draining and tiring nursing is, Mom.

"I told you, nursing will be fun," she hung her hand on my arm.

"By the way, Mom." I looked at Satan, who was quietly standing behind me. "This is Satan," I introduced him to my mom.

My mom's jaw dropped while Satan frowned.

"Samuel Nathan. You can call me Nate po, Ma'am," he politely said.

I held my mom's shoulder to bring her to reality.

"Bakit naman Satan ang tawag mo sa kanya," sinamaan ako ng tingin ni Mommy. "That's rude, Vera," umirap siya.

"It's unique," I defended myself. "He helps me with his study, di ba?" I turned my gaze to Satan.

"Really?" my mom asked. He awkwardly nodded. "I should thank you then. I hope my daughter isn't a pain in the ass."

"Not at all, Ma'am," he smiled. "Noong una po masyado siyang madaldal, but she's smart. I learn a lot from her too. She has a deeper mind than everyone else."

"Call me Tita Ria," mom said.

Satan was about when someone interrupted him.

"Who is this young man?" my dad suddenly came out of nowhere. He was serious, but when he looked at me he kissed my temple and smiled at me.
